Failbook/twitter and all that B/s

Honest question folks,

Do you think Failbook and the likes is Safe for kids?
Had abit of a Debate with my wife tonight as icaught my step son on Fail book Mouthing off on someones Wall or what ever they call it,
itold her hes going to end up with his Head kicked in but she says im just being Grumpy and to leave him Alone,

its not that imean who do they know who theyre talking too, they just Add anyone,

How old is he? My oldest one's not happy 'cos I won't let him join, he's just turned 11, Facebook themselves say the minimum age is 13, but it seems like he's the only one in his class that's not on there. One of my friends even set up an account for her 8 year old daughter, I told her she's mad but she can't see anything wrong with it.

I've only just let my boy go on xbox live too. Some of the stories of bullying on there that I've heard from other parents made me very nervous so I told him first sign of trouble and he's off for good, it's been OK so far.

I dunno, sometimes I think I'm too strict on the kids, I don't want them to get hassled by their mates or anything, but I also want them to grow up with a moral compass that works!

It should be 16 + site my little brother is 13 going on 40 and his on there all the time mouthing off to people I caught him a couple times and read the convosations I wouldnt dream of speaking to anyone like him and his friends tlk to ppl and yeh he went to school one day and got his ass kicked coz of Facebook it's more of a adult site to speak to friends who u don't see much kids should be out side playing with there mates not sitting in the house on the net tlkin to them

The big problem with Facebook is, they require you to use your real name. Your name is then associated with all of your posts. But then prospective employers (not to mention your current bosses) have been known to search Facebook for their employee's or prospective employee's posts to see what kind of person they are, or if they've been seen slagging off the company or bosses, etc.

The way I tell my stepson to think about Facebook is, imagine it's a pub. You say the wrong thing down the pub, and someone will drag you outside and beat you up. Same with Facebook. Thing is, people down the pub will forget what you said, eventually. Facebook is permanent.

Facebook is handy for talking to old school mates, or relatives using its instant messenger.
But a lot of its stupid, the "like" facility whats the point in that, why isnt there a dislike?
And why does some people want to add you as a friend even though you have just talked to them for 10 minutes.

ive had one Girl at the door this Morning saying hes Been calling her Names, "slag /dog and other stuff,

certainly not Nice,
But his Mother Wont Back me up with puninshing him for it, So ive told them Both to pack there Bags,

Gets me why she will turn against eveyone to let her son have Free Roam!

Sorry to hear of the problems lozz.

But its really not that bad if used properly, its the same as youtube; sometimes the comments go bezerk with people getting very rude, in heated arguments usually sparked by something extremely simple such as the pronunciation of a word.

If your with BT the home hub has settings in it to block all computers from a particular site(s)

alternativley i tried this one on internet explorer there is some block facility deep in the options to block a site and require a password, it worked the time my sister always wanted to use my laptop for bebo, the problem was i forgot the password, also nowadays with google chrome, firefox and opera it would just be a case of installing another browser to bypass the problem. But if the router has a blocking facility then thats the best bet.

the password and username is printed on the back of the hub type them in to get up all the settings, it might be a good idea to change the password so no one else in the house will know what it is.

i sorted the Bt home hub out, they carnt use the Wifi now for there phones etc,

caught the stepson Earlier walking up the Road with some Xbox 360 games in his hand
iasked him Where are you going with them No Reply,.

My Guess is he was going to take them to the local computer shop to be sold,
Most probs for Credit Money for his Mobile phone,

ive told his mum if he gets his head Stoved in Dont even Bother coming to me im out of it,

iguess when he goes back to school he will be coming home with a few black eyes, he will learn the hard way aspose

facebook to be fair can be good - i can keep in touch with family and things accross the country, mates from racing and have banter with lots of others.

But kids do cause a lot of a problems on facebook, simple comments cause WW3.

But it is so easy to get round some of the controls..... I am going to start to investigate someone soon, see whats being said, someone opened their mouth slagging someone off and sh*t hit the fan!
