Did raise the question of whether they are brand specific, keep meaning to try a different os in my no name cheapy sat-nav just to see if it works. Never sure if the sd card in it handles the os or just the maps.
Anyone tried it?
a mate did this to his sat nav and all the bridges and things downloaded but the sat nav didnt have a function to recknize them so still routed him through them.

First serious outing for what has become known as the 'fatnav' today, up to Yorkshire & back and it seems really good. The, 'get in the right lane, stupid', function works a treat and even this blind old codger can read it cleary when stuck dead-center and as low as possible on the screen. Definitely worth the money, 'specially as you can get £20 refunded on your next tank of fuel too. 8)
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
