Rear End Suspension Parts

Just starting to feel the onset of rear end sway on my D8, as I'm hoping to keep this car for a while I'm considering giving the suspension a good overhaul starting with the rear as no knocks or rattles are coming from the front.

Other than top links and drop links can anybody give me a list of bushes etc for the D8 1.9td. Might do the lot while I'm at it.

Hi mate, I did the same to mine when I got it. Apart from top and drop links:

Lower rose joint bush
Trailing arm bracket bush
Trailing arm bushes
Roll bar bushes

There is also an inner suspension arm bush but that was fine on mine so I didn't replace it. The trailing arm and bracket are easy to remove, I would just take them to a garage and have them press the old ones out and the new ones in. A place near me did that for £10 a side. I got Delphi trailing arm bushes and a generic bracket bush off ebay (which turned out to have a Micheline stamp on the rubber, all good).

The lower rose joint bush can be replaced in situ if you purchase a special tool for about £50. However if you have the top links, drop links and trailing arm off already, I would just take the whole hub assembly off and take it a garage to have it pressed out and replaced.

The roll bar bushes were very challenging. I sheered off one bolt which had to be re-tapped, and the other 3 were difficult to remove. Lots of patience, heat, wire brushing and WD40 coxed them off in the end.

Motaquip do the top links, drop links and lower rose joint bush. See if you can get them, as good as OE and usually very cheap.

I also did ball joints, drop links and lower arms at the front. Followed up by a 4 wheel alignment, the car feels fantatic.

Thanks for the response Ally, mine is just coming up to 89,000 miles so I'm hoping to keep it for a good few years yet. Engine is sweet with plenty of power (relatively speaking for a 90).
A bit of TLC on the brakes and suspension, some elbow grease on the paintwork and she's good to go.

Good stuff, tons of life left in that!

The only other preventative measure I would take is to look after your sills, they are prone to rust on high milers. There are body plugs at either end of the sill under the arch liners. I would pop them off and fill the sill with some used engine oil. Also make sure the drain holes are nice and clear, and that the rubber trim along the top of the sill is secure and sealed. Water gets in the top and the sills rot from inside out :evil:
