I know all walks of life frequent these boards so on a personal day to day basis i have a question to ask, for almost 15 years i have suffered serious health problems that have been life threatening several times at least.
I worked my tits off before this started but was finished on ill health jan 1998.

I wont go into to much detail because it would take all week but how do you workers feel with scroungers like myself milking your hard earned tax?

Mates of mine say get a job you lazy bastard but they also know why i'm not working.

Dont f*ck about guys i want a honest opinion and would like to fight my case too so speek your mind.

im Registred disbled, igave up the rights to claim benefits etc for my own reasons, ifelt depressed being sat in the chair allday got up and went out to work
iwouidnt judge anyone that is ill ,its not nice been there done that and all ihave to say is if they dont like it tell them to feck off if your ill your ill not your fault is it ?

Good shout lozz my problems started when i was 9 years old i had 2 major operations by the time i was 12 and have suffered since with reactions that not even the doctors understand i am now 39..... My mate jokes calling me lazy but you can see people look down on you it's not nice.

My wife works her ass off for not a great deal of money and today i was told even if i have my day in court and win my case against the dwp i will lose any benifits i'm entitled to in 12 months anyway because my wife works.

Basically i'm screwed and the poor wife will end up working more hours than her body can handle.

Or i get a job that will last 2 days before a hospital visit!!

Oh dont get me wrong bud i've learned to deal with this in the 12 months it's been going on, many times i've said to my family i give up with it but i'll be honest here the illness is no lie... i'm just gonna forget about it for a few days and hope my youngest kicks ass in the eistedfodd... if she dont i'm still proud but a tad skint.

I don't know anything about your illness or disabilities, so I don't know what kind of work you can and can't do.

I am in IT, which means generally I get to sit on my ass all day and just work on a computer. I love it, because all the challenges are technical rather than physical. Is this the sort of job that you might find yourself physically capable of doing without getting ill? If so, great. If so, but you're not IT literate, then it's definitely not too late to get stuck in and learn IT as a trade. Just my suggestion for what you might be able to do.

Migraine every 3 weeks
isuffer with migraines that bad it makes me throw up and ijust go somewhere dark, iwouidnt dream of claiming for it, sorry but thats not a disability or ilness

people who are scroungers in my view are people that can work that wont.
i dont work at the moment but i dont sign on because i sell a few 406 parts,i do a bit of agency work,i look after my 4 year old instead of paying 130 pounds in child care.my mrs works as well so claiming is a night mare and as il only get about 60 pounds a week its not worth it and wont get no other help as we have our own house.how these people can get so much money out of the system is beyond me when ive worked for over 30 years and can only get £60 and for that i have to fill in so many forms its unreal.
now i suppose if i go to france throw my passport away sneak back into england paint myself a diffrent colour, start ranting about another religion il have a 5 bedroom house loads of money before you can say p45.

It's a sad state of affairs mate, we all know that there are scroungers, benefit cheats, whatever you want to call them, in this world, hell we probably all know several of them personally, but it really pisses me off when whole chunks of society get tarred with the same brush.

I think there's a very real problem in some parts of the UK (and our part in particular ) with this benefits culture though, I worked briefly in recruitment back in 2007 and I'm sorry but it is true that there are a lot of people around here who just can't be arsed to work. I'll always remember the first time my boss sent me interviewing in Aberdare Job centre for machine and warehouse operators for local factories, he said "here's a list of 20 names, 10 of them will show up to the interview, 2 of them will start a job and one of them will run at their first break!" and he was absolutely right... We'd generally spent a whole day interviewing to get 1 willing and able name on the books, rediculous.

One guy turned up to his interview in shorts, vest and flip flops, OK I'm not expecting a suit but jeans and a t-shirt isn't too much effort surely? There was a largish woman who couldn't last the 10 min chat without having a snack, by the time she'd told me all the stuff she couldn't possibly do time was up! There was one guy who opened the conversation "I'm not interested in working butt!" I asked why he'd come to the interview and he said that the job centre said he had to or they'd stop his money, so I told him to f*ck off and stop wasting my time, prick! Strangely he seemed a little offended by that Even the ones that came accross OK in the interview were often a PITA, I'd ring them and say "got a position for you starting next monday" and they'd come up with some sh*t like "Oh I can't work Monday, gotta take my neighbour's mum's budgie to the vet"..... And these are the same idiots that complain that our factories are full of migrant workers

Anyway, I digress... To come back to you Scotty me old china, I have no issue at all with genuine claimants such as yourself, I work my arse off and pay my taxes (income tax, NI, PAYE, corporation tax, VED, VAT, council tax, fuel tax..... never ending innit!!!) but at the end of the day I'm thankful that I'm reasonably healthy and able to do that. God forbid anything should happen to incapacitiate me or any members of my family but if it did I'd hope that I or they'd be able to get some help and maintain some kind of standard of living. "Treat others as you'd like to be treated yourself" and all that jazz...

Scroungers and benefit cheats, however, can all take a long walk off a short pier!

Hang on a minute your not working for the dwp in Aberdeen are you? thats the office that first dealt with my appeal ... seriously though all was good i was working in a chocolate factory not far from mr Dairees and i'd work any hours available... most days it was tough going others nice and easy but i could never go back to a job like that now i have to stay close to the toilet.

The IT bit sounds good i've never been work shy but who would employ someone who needs the loo every half hour because a fart often ends with brown pants?

I am quite litterally crapping myself at the thought of a 4 hour drive to North Wales tomorrow but i'm glad to be going in our own car not the school bus so i can stop if need be.

My Dad who passed away 3 years ago joined the navy in 1946 and did 26 years in that and worked in various other jobs untill he retired at 65 and always paid his taxes.When he was 72 he had to have his right leg amputated due to diabetes and up till then was still driving o.k.,i thought i'd get in touch with the powers that be to see if we could get a mobility car for him and then he wouldn't have to pay road tax aswell,the reply was that he was too old!!,poor chap had paid tax all those years served king and country in many conflicts around the world and never claimed a penny and the one time he could have done with help there was none.We bought a Focus for him and had it converted to hand controls out of our own pockets in the end.A chap i used to work with had a disabled wife although she was still fit enough to go on cruises round the med but because she was registered disabled with a blue badge he didn't have to pay any road tax on his brand new 4x4 as he drove her places in it! The mind boggles with the benefit system in this country.

I'm old school when it comes to being ill, and pretty harsh for some reason. I feel scotty's case is pretty spectacular as far as being ill goes but I must say I don't have much time for those that 'throw sickies'

I can honestly say that I have had not a single day off work by reporting to be 'ill' (cold/flue/sick/shits) in the 25 years I've been at work. I've been ill, but still gone to work. I did have 6 months "off" my office job back in 1998 due to a slipped disc. I say "off" I still did admin work at home and made calls etc. but I wasn't doing anywhere near what I normally did.

I'm a workaholic, far too conscientious compared to most, and feel I do a very good job.........ONLY it will kill me in the end I know. I also under-sell my abilities because I am extremely cautious about what I do for fear of making mistakes (just a personal trait I'm afflicted with) I really ought to be banging the desk and demanding more more more but that's not me.

Modern business in the UK is crap and getting worse, I am telling my lad (who's 16) to look at working in Germany when he qualifies. In the UK you get worked to the bone and by the time you retired you'll be skint and f*cking knackered from it all

Keep doing what you're doing scotty, maybe you'll find a way of raising money yourself somehow to help with the finances.

Cheers guys it's hard work explaining to anyone how you feel day to day when on the outside you look fine, you try your best to keep it all in for the sake of the kids and sanity but these people really try their best to f*ck you up. it got so bad in October i hadn't eaten much for months and if i had 1 hours kip a night it was a lie in.... It put me in hospital for a week after having a seizure and it turns out thats when the decision was made that i was fit for work.... Yep November 2nd and it's now June.
