Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Yep... I have two neon tubes in my amp in the boot. I bought 12v neons off Ebay, the sort you use in a PC case, complete with an inverter and sound reactive module.

To power them up, cut off the Molex connector on the power line. Pop out the boot light, remove the bulb. Now ground the black wire of the neon wiring to a god earth point and poke the red wire into the bulb holder, when the neons light up you've found the positive feed. Fix the red wire into place - I used one of the Molex connectors squashed a bit to push into the socket, and did the same for the black wire into the other socket on the bulb holder. I then refitted the light cover letting the wire dangle out of the gap at the side, then taped the lose wire to the underside of the parcel shelf to stop it dangling down, ran it down the seat back, into the inverter and then into the neons. Job's a good un, they only light up when the boot lid opens

Indeed... one does like to "kick it" with the "kids", as one does have one's "street cred" to think of. Booyakashan, as they say. Keep it real, homes. Word to your mother. Ai.

And the winner of the Bodge Master 2006 trophy goes to davva for his electrical installation safety tips.... Not quite sure the car insurance will cover DIY pimping that goes wrong........lol

Its easy enough to cut strip and recrimp your connector for your bulb holder in the boot, also as a matter of due course, may I suggest an uprated fuse in the box, or an inline one on the other end where you connect it!

Failing that, strip wrap and solder never fails, insulate and amalgamate for added security lol

Erm... Niz... you do know that these neon kits pull less than half an amp of power right??? You can power them off a USB port, with a max draw of 500 milliamps. So cutting, crimping, soldering, heatshrinking, and finally smothering them with Kryptonite to make sure Superman can't make the terminals connect is a bit of overkill.

End of the day Gaz it's your car, wire them up how you see fit. I shoved the molex terminals into the bulb socket and gave everything a quick wrap in insulation tape, and so far I haven't caught fire yet.

No I didn't, so there you go.. I've learnt something today... PC Neon tubes use less than 500ma wow ! :D

Not overkill just safe! Coming from a car audio and security installation background I have seen many bodges ( cellotape insulated twisted wires ), and I just don't want to see a 406oc member with shoddy wiring, which is why I originally created a KB article for the running of power cables to the passenger compartment from under the bonnet!!!!
