recommending a retailer that sells 40mm sockets

I didn't know exactly which section this would be best posted to but considering that it is largely suspension related i figured here would be ok.
Please move to the appropriate thread if i'm wrong.

Can anyone recommend a tool vendor where i can get my hands on a non impact 40mm socket to remove the nut for a rear wheel bearing?
I'm not sure of the exact size of these nuts but they certainly look like a 40mm.

I've seen the odd 41mm knocking around but trying to find a 40mm one that isn't for an impact gun is nigh on impossible without paying through the nose for it.
I've never owned an impact gun so i have no clue as to whether you can use impact sockets in the same way as standard sockets can be used on knuckle bars and socket wrenches.

I've been on tool manufacturer websites that sell individual sockets from their sites and nothing.

Was the 35mm for the rear drums on your old xsara?

no the fronts mate,
alot of people use 36mm but 35 is a tight fit,

I thought the rear hub nuts on the 406 were 36mm?

Anyway you can use impact sockets as they are stronger than normal sockets, I like to buy only impact sockets for the bigger sizes.

@jaspers, iuse 35mm as ialways end up with the odd car where someones been at them before ,

I'll have to double check the size as it was only a rough guess.

I have an aluminium ruler that i used to get a rough measurement and from one side of the nut to the other it measured 4cm.

Having come across a few vastly overpriced sockets at 40mm online, the comments for some of them did state that they were suitable for removing Peugeot wheel hub nuts.

best to measure them ,but 40mm does seem whay to big, ive only done the fronts so not 100% if the rears are the same size as the fronts,

also you might be best grabing one from halfords or the likes by time you pay for postage for one on line it work out same price, with less hastle of waiting for postie to bring it

I'll probably do one better than that and pop into a hardware store that sells sockets and take the hub nut with me.
While in the store i'll measure it against the sockets available and i can give a definitive answer then.

When I did my brother's car I think I used my 36mm which i think was a little big, but being hexagon it still fitted, I think 35mm may be right.

Such a long time since I did one, memory is a bit cloudy, but i'm getting on a bit

I know some of the bigger Fords have 41mm rear hub nuts.

My V6s front hub nuts are 35mm. A 36mm socket fits and does the job, but due to the stupid amount of torque needed you should replace the nuts after a few goes with a 36mm socket because they end up right chewed.

I managed to get hold of a socket at 40mm.
Although when I bought it I really didn't mean to.

I went online looking about for parts and such and, like a plank, I saw a 40mm impact socket at £10 and thought 'ooh, I'll have that'.
It was only until an hour later that I realised I'd ordered a tool that I couldn't be sure would be the correct size.

Anyway.
It arrived on Monday so I took the hub nut for one of the rear wheel bearings and checked it for size.
Luckily it turns out to be a bang on fit.
