Somewhere for parts

I finally found somewhere local that has a good supply of 406 parts, i was talking to an old man the other day at the shop, his 406 has 230k miles on it, he gets his parts off a place not too far away, so i got the phone number and went to this breakers:


Thats just a few he has, the estate is an SE the brown is an ex taxi which has a fabric beige interior (all filthy) there is a Rapier round the corner, a few others even one of the D9's without climate control, he gets them in fairly regularly.
The man that owns the place is a peugeot mechanic and seems to be a big fan of the 406 he keeps two on the road one is a 2.2 estate which has been remapped (its very very fast) and the other is a 2003 2.0 110 SE which says 34k on the clock and it can be believed because there is not a single scratch or scuff on it at all and it looks like new.
But i went and got a few parts, a wing mirror, ash wood trim, a front splitter, hazard light switch, beige 3rd brake light, and rear courtesy light all for £15.




He said to ring next week about 16 inch nimrods, his 110 has them on it and the handling in the corners is noticeably better.

If so, the mechanic who taught the car maintenance course down the tech recommends him as a Peugeot/Citroen mechanic.

Could've did with a 406 graveyard to try and find KMWC passenger doors that weren't rusting!

If there is a COM2000-equipped petrol-engined SE there, I would like the white dials off it. Somehow I doubt there is one there though.

Also wouldn't mind a pair of chromed interior door handles.

Next time you go there if you see the drivers 4 way elec window switch with mirror control slip it into your pocket for me.

Next time you go, take a 406oc shopping list.

Also ask him nicely if he'll stock some Accord coupes. Bloody nightmare to get parts for.

He only has HDi's mainly 90's and some 110's there is a 2.2 for parts then his own 2.2 executive. I didn't see any white dials only one car with crome rings on black dials. But there was an SE estate that had been fairly well taken apart the door handles were all still in it, if you want i could get them some time, the back ones would do the front of the coupe so you could have a spare pair perhaps.

Sirwiggum they was a lot of blue coloured doors available, even ones sitting in his shed, its not templepatrick. This is down in derrytresk, thats at the bottom of lough neagh near maghery, its only about 5 miles off the M1 on junction 14. There is no accord coupes (or even 406 coupes) the only other cars i seen was avensisssies, a clio, an m5 some sierras, an e class and a transit. Plus a few 306s, a xsara and a 106.
He prefers the HDi engine to the XUD saying the HDi rarely needs the head gasket done. But to avoid the 1.6 HDi at all costs.

Nice to see theres some old skool scrapyards left,

The Health & safety Doo gooders seem to have put an end to going in and taking parts off cars yourself these days

most are go to a counter,no yard access service only, and then they can charge you what they want as they put aprice on time spent removing parts

rwb: i think the majority of the cars i was around were 90's and i do recall seeing 5 dials, i won't be back till next week when he gets the alloys but ill have a look for you.

There is too many scrapyards behind the counter, its not much good, i find it enjoyable going round old cars and taking the parts off myself (the man explained thats why parts at scrapyards are higher is because wages for the man taking the part off has to be added onto the price), this place isn't a scrapyard as such just a mechanic with a lot of 406's so i suppose he avoids needing to have a till or caring about health and safety. The local scrapyard thats only about 2 miles from me does have a till and for a good while wouldn't let me into the yard, but the owners son usually lets me in now, i think you need to be over 18 to get into some of these places.

I got the full ash wood trim set, but after trying it on the panel beside the steering wheel it doesn't suit my Cream interior, anyone want a set of ash wood trims?

Traynors is fully counter service, everything is a computer lookup.

Some of the smaller breakers now though only lift the engine out them scrap the rest! Seem to make more money weighing it in than selling for parts!

I live less than a mile from traynors
traynors is all computerised although i never go near them its always a long queue then a long wait for the part, there is hardly ever a 406 there its all mainly newer cars, whereas a smaller breaker down the road does cars the age of the 406, if there is a 406 he lets me take my tools and get the part(s) that is much better.

Don't think it has to come from a 90 mate. As long as they're D9 diesel from a multiplex car, they should fit yours. Rapier ones should go straight in & they have the chrome rings to boot.

I thought the clocks on the 110s had different graduations because final drive is longer.

I have a 5 dial gague out of a multiplexed car in my attic, i only bought it for the dials and chrome rings which i swapped onto my own, i have no idea of the mileage on it but it looks in good condition
