front springs

Post by omega »

got a d8 that iam breaking and listed a few bits on ebay and someone wants the front legs off her now i can see how to remove it from the bottom but at the top is it just the bolts on the inner wing i need to remove?
now when ive released the top and bottom will the spring try to leave this planet trying to take me with it?or does it all come off as one unit?
i know you need spring compressors to release the spring but do i need them if i am removing the whole lot? i think i will but if this is the case the jobs a no no as i dont have any.
cheers

nigel . the spring comes off but will still be securely fixed to the shock.
yes just remove those 3 big torx bolts at the top of the strut and the whole spring/shock unit will come off in one

the spring wont come off or try to spring away. there is another bolt then on top of the shock. this bolt removes the spring . but dont undo that without clamps.

but yes its safe to take the whole leg off. the bolt to remove the spring from the shock can only be seen one the whole leg is off the car.

Gary is bang on,
Undo drop link, slacken the nut holding the base of the leg into the hub assy, (you may need to persuade the hub assy with something heavy until it drops down), undo 3 torx bolts at the top and you're done.
