front disc problem
I have a problem with the discs warping after about 5-10k, I got garage to change discs on warranty after 6k, but after about 6k they seem to be going the same way? they will be aftermarket discs but surelly they should last longer than that!
Any Ideas?

Re: front disc problem
Are your calipers running freely?
I was going to say the discs could be just cheap and nasty, but, if the calipers aren't free to move, then because they aren't coming off as quick as they should, heat will build up and warp the disc

Re: front disc problem
it all depends how you the driver brake. back in the day when i passed my test my vauxhall cavalier was same
because i was braking very heavy all the time.

They couid be bad discs, (poor quality)
brake discs shouid last years, if you change the pads before the run low,
ibin them every 6mths for what they cost ithink its agood way of getting good life out of discs,
ialways change the pads when replacing discs too, ive seen people buy expensive discs and then fit there old pads back in,
they end up scored.

Re: front disc problem
I bought some cheap and cheerful aftermarket discs and pads for my old Rapier 110 and the right one warped after about 5k,i bought some good quality ones to replace them and they were fine,i don't drive hard and the calipers were not sticking it was just poor quality parts.

Re: front disc problem
its perhaps down to the metal used,
ive noticed in the scrapyards they keep brake discs all in one place, (pile)
iwonder if they get sent off somewhere cleaned up skimmed and put in a fancy box

Re: front disc problem
One thing i never thought of but i was told is that if you've just braked hard and come to a stop at a junction you sometimes tend to sit there with your foot on the brake waiting for lights to change etc which then creates a hot spot on the disc where the pads are gripping which can lead to a warp in the disc,it's mostly with automatics though where you do tend to sit with the footbrake on.

not where we weigh scrap in,
they just bring a metal skip out on fork lift, it all goes in unless its ally brass etc,
they dont give you any extra for disks,
but they have a pile of disks in a corner,
every other metal is Bailed
ithink the disks go back out again Refurbed perhaps they have a punter waiting for em

Re: front disc problem
just had aquick google,
the metal in brake disks is graphite cast iron,
they go back to some factorys that make brake disks, most probs they go straight into the pot with good metal and smelted down,
that might explain why they rust so quick
