Re: Bottom pulley going?
5) Driving out of a car park, the gear lever decided to give up changing gears and get stuck in second. Could still freely move the lever without it doing anything. I was 1 minute drive from the garage where my car is and limped it there in second. The reception guy, who has a broken leg and is on crutches, came out, pushed the lever down as hard as he could and then moved it about until it "clicked" back in. Somehow whatever came loose became unloose. He said the gear linkage cable's ball bearing seemed to have popped out but we'll get it looked at properly.
"Depollution fault" seemed to have gone away though and my dad said that clanging is from the loose spare wheel, which I don't think it is. Tempted to take the wheel out and see if it still does it...
How badly are these Citroens made?! Everything is literally falling apart on it.
There was a guy at badminton yesterday, who owns a V6 HDI 407 Coupe. He said that every day he's waiting for something electrical to fail. Decent mechanically, other than the need to replace the alternator and something cruise control related but had lots of various other niggles. Not something I'd expect of a 3 year old car....

I wonder if French cars will ever shake off that 'build quality' issue, even when they do sort it no-one will believe them
I thought they were trying hard to improve things, mind you if they stopped making cars so stupidly complex there wouldn't be as many faults to report
we all seem to want Heated Climate Adaptive Doo-dads but it's all more to go wrong.

Indeed. I wonder how long it will be until the headlights that turn with the steering wheel stop working...Welly wrote:we all seem to want Heated Climate Adaptive Doo-dads but it's all more to go wrong.

Certainly my gear knob never fell off..... My perception is that Peugeots are slightly better built than Citroens.

Re: Bottom pulley going?
I really like the new C5 especially after seeing Disco's in flesh last summer. They are not expensive either - cheaper than their 407 counterparts.

Re: Bottom pulley going?
Car is back - nice and quiet. Just replaced the belt and the tensioner - the pulley was apparently fine. Still set me back £170 including everything but it'll do for the peace of mind.
I realllllly need to tackle that stupid steering wheel rattle - it's just getting worse every week. Time to battle with the bottom mount again, I think!
