Grinding/Rubbing noise when on full lock right

Post by jason1987 »

getting a grinding noise when im turning right on full lock, sounds like the tyres are rubbing but its all standard so shouldnt be and cant see any signs, been told might be cv joints? and if it is cv joints will it be ok to leave them til the car dies lol or are they gonna be a problem? got a 406 sri on 129k miles, dont really wanna spend much more on it.

Mine does that, I can't remember if it's right or left lock but the tyre is rubbing very gently on the arch liner. Nothing seems to be worn or misaligned so I've just put it down to The Peugeot Zone and ignored it.

If it was the CV joints I think you'd be noticing other signs - stuff like clonking on full lock. Other than that I guess it could be worn ball joints, but again there'd be other signs.

Two thoughts: this is a constant noise, rather than a pulsating (wub wub wub) noise?
You might want to check to see if the steering is turning more one way than the other - count the turns from lock to lock, then turn the steering back half this number and it should be dead ahead.

it sounds just like a tyre rubbing on the arch, which is what i first thought it was, but when i look in the arch the tyre is miles away from arch and cant see whats rubbing.

When ever i've had cv joint problems on previous front wheel drive cars it has always been a loud "clicking" noise on full lock rather than a grinding noise.

Maybe we know what was on Josh Wink's mind...

I still didn't work out what dubstep is, even though apparently I've been listening to it :?

justr had a look at the rubber boot thing with the wheels turned in full lock and they look fine to me, not split or anything, well looked at the left one mainly.

Wikipedia wrote:Dubstep (/ˈdʌbstɛp/) is a genre of electronic dance music that originated in South London, United Kingdom. Its overall sound has been described as "tightly coiled productions with overwhelming bass lines and reverberant drum patterns, clipped samples, and occasional vocals"
... but I, and many others, know it as "electronic music that goes 'wub wub wub' a lot". It's inescapable over here at the moment, with Wub Wub artists like Deadmau5 and Skrillex in the charts. Thankfully I only hear Dubstep music occasionally, as I only listen to the radio while I'm in the car.
