Waterpump & new cambelt?

Post by leestudd30 »

If you need to replace the waterpump, I'm assuming you need to need to remove the cambelt to get to it? Would you need to fit a new cambelt kit as well, even if you'd only had it replaced a year ago?

The timing belt drives the water pump, so you do need to remove the belt to get the pump out.

If you changed the belt last year, but not the pump, did you change the tensioners then too? If not, change them while you've got the belt off.

Sorry, I was just asking for reference, heard someone at work asking earlier. Customer wanted the waterpump replaced but only had the cambelt done a year ago.

Yes, plus if the water pump or any of the tensioner kit seizes, then it can cause the belt to skip a tooth or two, come off, or even snap - all of which can cause extensive damage to the engine.

For the price of the replacement parts, it's worth swapping it all out.
