Hi,just got a 406 GLX TD estate 1998 S reg,the seller said it needed glow plugs and i've just phoned the local car spares and he asked if it was the xud engine. Can you enlighten me please.£20 for a set of 4,thought that was cheap. He said they were cheaper a few months ago at £16. :)

Yes - if it's a 406 and it's diesel-powered and it's from 1998 or before, then it's either going to be the 1.9 TD (engine code XUD9 TE/Y) or it's going to be the 2.1 TD (engine code XUD11 BTE)

No idea if that's the right price for a set of glow plugs or not; I've never bought one in my life :)

I tend to go for a well known brand such as Bosch Duraterms or NGKs as I've had bad experiences with cheaper plugs.

I paid £32 for a set of 4 NGK Y-924Js at its last service.

The XUD engines are great, congrats on the purchase :)

I took a mate with me to give it the onceover before i got it,it was advertised as needing glow plugs,it started ok but only on three, the forth cylinder came in about 5 seconds later, they both said it was the hard to get at fourth one.It was the same yesterday morning,I hav'nt tested them,or should i say i hav'nt had them tested.I was going to have a search on how to do it later on.
