What engine and gearbox have I got?

Post by Gentle Ben »

Hello guys and girls,

I was wondering if you kind people could tell me which engine and gearbox (if possible) I have installed here:

Image

As you can see, it is not fitted in a Peugeot and I'm getting to the point where I need some Pug parts to get it all married up together, namely gearbox cables, a gear-lever assembly and and one or two other odds and sods. Knowing specifically what I've got fitted will help me immensely, as I don't have a suitable registration number to give them.

Also if anyone can advise of a seller or breaker where I can come by these parts without having to re-mortgage, I would be grateful...

Thanks in advance!

Ooh, what you got there then?

That does look like one of these:

The gearbox will probably be an ML5T (unless you've stuck something different in...) You'd probably do best looking for parts for an early 406 (the 2.1td and 2.0 turbo also use this 'box). There's also a resident breaker (Ade) over on the coupe club (http://www.406coupeclub.org) who you might wish to contact.

Thanks for that Steve, it probably would have helped to say it's a manual gearbox, but what you've said sounds like the gearbox code the dealer gave me when I asked Pug for a price for new cables, although at £50 each cable, plus the fact the gearstick assembly is discontinued item, I may as well source everything from a breaker.

Oh, and if you were wondering what it is, it's a Renault 19 that's had far too much money thrown at it!
