brake pad wear light

Post by parcelman »

for the last month or so ive noticed on my peugeot rapier that the brake pad wear light comes on when the brakes are applied.the pads are really thick and have loads of life in them yet,i must add though that this only happens when its wet or damp, its never really happened before whilst ive owned the car.

around the calipers you will see 2 wires that plug in and connect to 2 probe type things. they simply plug in . lightly pull and the will pop out
1st job i would do is try cleaning them up and re-seating them.

I think Farmer P had a similar problem, on Autodata there's stuff about the light glowing (i.e. not coming on full) in damp weather, it says to put a resistor in line with it.

I had the same on my old Rapier and it turned out that one of the sensor wires from the brake pads had been touching the inside of the wheel rim and had worn it down to the copper core, when i braked the wire must have moved just enough for it to touch the rim and short and bring the light on and also when it was damp/wet the circuit would be made via the water to the inside of the rim,it is very tight between the rim and the caliper and if the wire wasn't routed right when the pads were last changed theres a chance there touch the wheel.

When i took the wheel off i could see the radial mark in the dirt on the inside of the wheel rim where the wire had been touching
