Re: brembo
If you like your brakes expensive, with expensive pads and expensive discs, a lovely loud squeal any time you go near the spongy pedal, constant issues with sticking pistons and pads, then yeah they're great...

Re: brembo
Good discs, good pads, stainless steel hose kit, excellent brake fluid. 406 brakes were not the best around I'm sad to admit. Sufficient, and pretty fade resistant, but not sporty.midsmike wrote:well wats the best way to upgrade them then as i already have a spongy pedal
Brembos are better, more feeling and more braking power, but they are a pita to mantain, as stated above.

Re: brembo
Hold on, hold on - this is a 1.9 td right? Mightn't it have the smallest disks (260mm)?
I always thought the 406 brakes were pretty good

Well, standard. I have some braking data under hand, no good, no bad. Around 42 meters for a full stop from 62mph.steve_earwig wrote:Hold on, hold on - this is a 1.9 td right? Mightn't it have the smallest disks (260mm)?

Re: brembo
1.9TD has 283mm brakes. I got a set of genuine discs, EBC green stuffs and I think the car stops very well indeed. You can go even further and fit more aggresive pads if you wished. This will allow you to stick with a 15" wheel which will improve handling, ride quality and give you a range of cheaper tyres. 18" wheels are a terrible idea and will increase unsprung weight significantly. Get the rear drums cleaned up and adjusted properly, change and bleed the fluid. Combined with decent discs and pads at the front job should be a good 'un.
I don't know if I'd bother with braided brake lines on a car intended for normal road use. Rubber hoses can expand when the brake fluid is at a very high temperature after prolonged hard braking. Not a situation you are likely to encounter popping down to Tesco.

Re: brembo
How much did you spend for discs and pads? Was your brake fluid low? The system may have a small leak if it's so spongy.midsmike wrote:thanks for all of your input i have a 2.1 with discs on the rear ive put new discs and pads all round with ferodo pads and bled them all
