Are the D9 Radios the same on multiplexed, and non-m.plexed

Post by neildavies »

Hi, I'm having to replace my radio and have seen second hand ones from a v plate (non-multiplexed). The front of the radio looks identical. I know I've got to get it matched to the car, but will the radios be the same whether the car is multiplexed or not,

Cheers

the bsi may see this as a fault, as the older radio is not CAN compatable it wont complete the network, so the radio wont be powered and will most likely put the airbag light on
if yours only has a bsi and isnt full mux then i dont see it being a problem
but i just noticed yours is a 2002 and will be full mux so it wont work
have seen this a lot at work, the customer says i only changed the radio and now the airbag light is on and this doesnt work....
and so forth
never understood why they called it CAN, should be CANT as you can do bugger all to a multiplexed car

Thanks James, you've saved me buying a tape player on ebay from a 2000 model. The local dealers I've phoned haven't been at all interested. One said "no", but no explanation like yours. One said "it shouls do, but I wouldn't guarantee it", and the other 2 told me to go to Halfords!

If I have to buy a new one, do you know if I can change it for a CD player (the car also has a cd changer).

as long as the cd player is multiplexed and is cd changer compatable then there will be no problems

THanks for your advice James, if I have to buy brand new, I may well upgrade to a dash CD. If I have to get a second hand multiplexed one, it might well be a CD player, as I'd have thought most of the newer 406's would have a CD player and not a changer.

James, do you work at a Peugoet dealer, judging by your post.

Thanks again, saved me a bit in not buying an older tape/cd player.

unfortunatley not, i work for Volvo, i know a lot from having a fair few pugs (none multiplexed), but my dad is a peugeot master technician, and he knows just about everything when it comes to pugs,
also it seems that pug and volvo use very similar CAN comunication, the pug system is slightly less complex though, and in my opinion more reliable,
thinking about it, it will be quite hard to find a multiplexed cd player thats cd changer compatable, also 2nd hand multiplexed radio's have no radio code and require decoding to work with your car

I thought the cd player would be ok with a cd changer as it has the cd changer button on it, but could this not be the case? If not, then I'd be looking at having the get a tape player.

I can't believe how confusing Peugeot have made what should be a simple changeover.

The engineer has called to say he's coming to look at the tape player in the car on Wednesday, so I'll see what they say and let you know. Fingers crossed they'll be able to repair my radio.
