great mot mechanic told me my droplinks were failed so replaced them now hes failed it on excessive play in driveshafts the car has only done 10 miles since its mot so why was this not picked up firstly

Hi john, If you have done the repairs yourself and not have the garage do the repair then they can do another full mot. This is because parts can be changed that you had on the car originaly to get through the mot. If they had done the repair then only the parts changed would be checked. There is a time limit on this.
If you have the fail sheet and nothing is on there as either an advisory or fail that points to you CV joints then say to the garage you want an appeal form to send away. This will be charged for I think. I had a similar thing years ago and when I said I am appealing against the decision (it was play on a steering rack, not advised) he said he would let it go this time and passed the car. I did get it checked out elsewhere and all was ok.

If it was my car I might be inclined to take it somewhere else for testing and see what happens, you'll probably be paying for a full test anyway so you've lost nothing.
On my last MOT it failed on a binding brake and a head light not working, the brake turned out to be a siezed hand brake cable which was fair enough but when I checked the head light it turned out the fuse had miraculously disappeared. I could never pin it down to the test station but needless to say I wont be taking any more cars there!!!

Sound like they're scouting for work to me personally. Take it elsewhere!
You'd know if there was play in the driveshafts, You'd have clicking on full lock, knocking when accelerating, and wobbly steering.

No, but the OP would have noticed it!

In that case he shouldn't be surprised or upset that it got failed, he should be grateful.

If it needed replacing, it needed replacing.

the work was done inside the time limit allowed but how come he could miss it first time but miraculously fail it a second had to get the garage to fit me a pair of shafts at a cost £270 but he retested after that for free (feeling guilty)

think the tester is taking the pi** he fitted the new shafts passed the car with an advisory saying cv boots held on with tie wraps he was the one who fitted the things
i am reporting him first thing tomorrow

Yeah, report him mate, hes taking the perverbial,

iuse Cable ties when ifit Cv gaiters, ive never had a problem or had an advisory comeback for it or a fail,

as long as the Gaiter is secure and holding all the Grease in whats the problem.

but to say hes putting an Advisory against his own work youve got him in a corner there, get him reported,

if hes charged you for full shafts then whys he used cable ties?
the proper metal ones are a pain to fit hence why iuse cable ties but if hes put all new shafts on whys he used ties ?

id be checking to see if hes just replaced the cv joints and billed you for the full hog :roll:

if the shafts dont look new, go and have words with him,

iirc New shafts come with the gaiters on ready assembled, if hes used cable ties that says to me
hes just replaced the cv joints and gaiters, cable tied them with the drive shaft still in,

or worst case scenario, new gaiters and plonked aload of grease in, (old back street Garage Trick)

icouid be wrong tho, :roll:

ever since i changed the drop links the car vibrates at 65 and if i change lanes to right on the motorway feels like the suspensions is going to give way
could this be a wheel bearing or a suspension link that is worn some where (only happens on front right of car) any help would be welcomed as i ready for pulling my hair out

went back to garage today gave me a full refund he must be guilty
