Tell us about your car - what age, mileage, engine condition, state of service, last cambelt change etc?

Why would you want to go anywhere near the red line? Torque's practically non-existant over 4500rpm so you'll probably fall asleep before it gets there

lol, i reckon you should let it rev to 7000, all my cars ive had cud do 7000 easy, a bit less when engine cold though :(

i got a Deisel now to save money lol and that won't go past 5000, bit less when its cold lol.

most people say if you really rev a Pug Turbo it will go faster afterwards because most peeple drive um like grandads lol.

it will get faster and faster the more you rev it cos the ECU will learn your a diffrent driver and let the Turbo pump in more mixtur and bigger bangs means more powah!!!!!!

OK... so first of all the Turbo unit has revlimiter of 6500 rpm, when you have the car chipped this limit can be removed... not much use on the stock T25 turbo though!

Ideally you want to be paying more attention on boost levels... for example, if you dont have a gauge get one :D

You want to be holding the boost at about 9 - 10 p.s.i and no more, otherwise its wastegate open and engine doing the rest of the work.... by retaining a constant boost pressure the engine will reach the redline quicker.... not that you'll need to go red!

What are you hammering it for? Drag, Circuit or just street-racing?

I typically never take the rev's much over 4800rpm unless I'm in 5th gear, then I will hold boost and let it pull off the clock ! lol

Redlining it really is pointless, I don't have any experience with a turbo'd 406 but I've had turbocharged cars since the age of 25 or so... damn, that's 10 years now!!! Turbo cars are all about midrange power, the torque curve in my RS is pretty much flat between 3000rpm and 5500rpm, corresponding to the highest boost level, and that's where the engine is producing the most torque. It's torque that makes the car acelerate, not top end power.

Best way to get maximum acceleration in a turbo car is to use the boost gauge (fit one if you haven't got one) and change gear the instant you see the boost start to tail off, this will drop you right back into the maximum torque band of the engine and give you instant hard acceleration. If you're prepared to be brutal to your engine and are absolutely 100% SURE you'll never miss a gearchange, keep your throttle planted between changes and let the limiter stop the engine over-revving to reduce turbo lag.

i know mine isnt a turbo but it seems the power is only between 3500 rpm and 5500rpm after that its like a diesel and just stops, and before 3500 is just a joke

i wonder if i could use the exhaust manifold off the diesel, as they share the same xu engine code, that way i just need to find some pipes, which i have and reduce compression

Hummmm.... now thats an idea... think you should ask either foxy or malachy as they will know about compatibility between manifolds etc..
