reception
v reg 406 original long aerial on the roof.
how do all you 406 owners rate the reception of the original equipment ? i find that my radio (which i have replaced) is not very good a picking up local stations etc.
Can you get different quality aerials that are better than others at picking up signals etc ?

Re: reception
My standard aerial works fine. Somewhere on the interweb is a site that shows you where the coverage for the BBC Manchester transmitter is, and my aerial seems to follow that perfectly. Very literally. The page traces the coverage border around the A500 and about half way down the M6/A500 slip road is where the signal dies, so I'm happy with it
Can't say much about the original head unit though, I only used it for the trip home from buying the car. Reception on it seemed ok though

got a link for any niz ?Niz406 wrote:The stock antenna is only a passive one??, hence why its sooo long !
You could replace it with an active (electric) antenna like an amplified b-sting type.... or even a shark fin one.
i take it this type of antenna will require a power supply, but what would be the easiest way of fitting a new aeriall lead from radio to roof ?
My rating - Its pretty rubish!
I think it probably the worse recpetion of any car/radio i've used recently. It only seams to like the Nation BBC radio satations and Classic FM (Its favorite, but not mine!). Girl fileds 1984 polo with ariel not extended (i.e. still sat in wing) picks up a lot better than my car
, i blame my pioneer MP3 headunit.

Radio Reception
Hi All,
I,ve just sorted an reception problem with the Radio CD player in my 2003 406 Estate. (No AM function. every thing else fine). My local Main dealer said the unit was faulty. To save (plenty) I sent it myself to Clarion in Swindon. They could find nothing wrong. I checked out the Ariel plug on the end of the lead. I found it was not making on the middle pin properly.
I checked this out by inserting a length of wire into the middle pin Ariel socket on the radio. Tuned to AM. Hey Presto instant reception on AM I slightly flatened the middle pin in the ariel lead plug and now all is fine.
FM reception is better to. Hope this helps.
Mick

Reception
Hi all. Just found another problem with my radio reception. The reception started to get worse again after I,d tried the other fixes. Have just finised tracing the Ariel through and found that water had got into the ariel base on the roof of the car. This has coroded the printed ciciruit board that lives there. This board I believe is an signal booster. It is in such a bad state that some of the components on it have dropped of. So it's another trip to Peugeot!!!
Re: Reception
the bit in question is a signal amplifier buddy and cost £6 from main dealer, replaced mine and it did'nt make any difference at all, am gonna buy a cheap amplified windscreen type off ebay and see what that does b4 i start ripping the old one out1949mick wrote:Hi all.
