Might be worth buying another engine off a similar beast and robbing the bits off that?

Bloody nightmare though, the HP pump is costly and you aint done many miles really :(

Another option might be to throw the towel in now and spend no more money, buy something else? you'd still be able to trade it in like it is, you might only get £450.00 but that's all you'd realise out of it in the end anyway in real terms.

Nah I'm not throwing the towel in, it's too nice a car for that. Might cost a hefty chunk to repair but what can you get instead, an astronomically miled car with an unknown history? Better the devil you know and all that....

To be fair the HP fuel system is really the only aknowledged "weak spot" of this engine, and there are plenty out there with a lot more miles than mine has having had their pump changed, so in theory getting it changed now should put it right for another 78000 miles :? .

I know I've got a relatively low milage and well maintained engine, so one from another car is invariably going to be in a worse state than mine.

I'm hoping to lease a new car (read have a company car) in the not too distant future, but I'm confident that my lovely Pug will give years more excellent service, not only to me but to the next owner too  .

See now, that there pump has the plastic caps that would have been on a new one. What's the betting that the pump was changed for a new one at a dealer/garage but didn't cure the problem so it can be assumed the old pump is still ok.

Probably made its way slowly out the back door and onto ebay

Worth a punt though eh Dai?

It's already in my watch list  , but after scaring myself shitless by reading internet horror stories I can't help feeling that if it isn't fekked after 60000 miles it's going to be very soon.

Mike (&) the mechanic  has ordered a regulator but it won't be in 'till Monday, so we'll see then!

It could also already be f%$#ed :frown: Note the way it looks brand new, sitting on top of its box - odds are that's the new one he replaced the one he's selling with 'cos it's knackered.

The worst thing would be to buy it, fit it to your car and still have the same fault - then you wouldn't know if it's something else or if it's the "new" pump has the same fault.

No if it needs a pump it'll have a shiny new one, I've never skimped on my cars and I'm not going to start now. :supafrisk:

Besides if I have a new car I'll be trying to sell this one on here, so you lot need to know that it's been fixed properly
