2.0 turbo - 150bhp - 178lbs/ft
3.0 V6 - 197bhp - 195lbs/ft
3.0 V6 VVT - 210bhp - 208lbs/ft
There's only really 30lbs/ft difference in torque at the top end of the scale...
now add that to the fact that the turbo reaches max torque at a lower rpm and then the weight difference (P/W ratio) between the two and I think you'll find a good battle between the two.....
It is by no means a given to the V6 and I think its wrong for anyone to proclaim this...
I think that the turbo might run into trouble at the top end scale, however I think it will be close up to that level !
If anyone fancies a test on this, we'll need a stock turbo and a stock V6... and 2 good drivers !

but it takes time to reach it and is crap off boost. v6 torquecurve is pretty flat. needless to say, im willing to put my stock v6 forward. for anyone who knows, its actually faster than my gti6...Niz406 wrote: the turbo reaches max torque at a lower rpm

What's the gti6 like compared to the turbo? mine is faster than the gti6 from 25 onwards (not sure about before that - never been off the mark aginst one). It wasn't just a little bit quicker - it was surprisingly quicker.
Stock '98 saloon 194bhp version.
I am sure both have their good points and each are better the the other at certain times. Only way to tell though is to put them against each other.
What's the weight difference between the pair?

A GTi6 would destroy a turbo and a V6 to 60, after 60 the V6 would catch and pass it with the turbo close(ish) behind.
No 2 ways about it a V6 is alot quicker than a stock turbo. More power and torque for much longer in the rev range, it doesnt take a genius!
I think my turbo will be darn near the power of a V6 give or take a few ponies so Im willing to put it forward when I get it back.

Ok, not destroy but various figures Ive seen state 7.8 for the V6 to 60 and the GTi6 is between 6.9-7.2 depending on the year. Off the mark the light 306 would go like sh*t off a shovel. Mine was extremley rapido.
Interestingly theres a nice bit of road near me which I used to see how fast I could go before needing to hit the brakes for the roundabout. In my GTi6 I managed just over 90mph, in the 406 (lightly tuned) its just under 90 mph. Bare in mind the GTi6 needed less space for braking Id say it was even to 100 ish but I 306 would walk it to 60.

i did the good old videoing on the mobile of the 6 and the v6 and they are both similar, have to dig the vids out. having said that, im not claiming to be able to drive both to their max, but that my driving style in each leaves them giving me the same performance, to 100 at least
