On the 106 diesel the camshaft and the injection pump need to be locked as well as the flywheel.
The cam pulley has a hole for a locking pin that fits at around 4 o clock and the injection pump has a hole for a locking pin that fits at around 2 o clock.
The diagram I have for the crank locking pin hole is not very clear, but it shows a hole in a similar position to the 406 in that it is through the block at the rear of the engine below a large bolt, possibly just below the cylinder head but I can't be certain without looking at an engine....you will just have to have a good look round.
On my diagram there appears also to be a mark on the front crank pulley set at 12 o clock but this may be misleading as there is no reference to it.
If you do get round to taking off the timing belt covers and find a stripped belt then we can move on with fitting a new belt....I can give you instructions on fitting and tensioning the belt later....when you are ready.

Re: O/S/F CV GAITER
hi jasper just about to have a go at the cv boot again. Haven't got any silicone sealant so i'll use instant gasket which is very similar. The timing belt on the pug 106 was only fitted about 18000 miles ago but i'll have a little look at the belt tommorow. They are not much to buy £20anyway and a waterpump is cheap too. Not sure if it has tensioners i'll have a look in the haynes manual i've got here. I'm thinking it would take a good 3 hours to lock the pump and timing and get the belt off and new belt and tensioners on. I had a 106 1.4 diesel and the mechanic i had at the time reckoned it took 3-4hrs to do. the engine is very similar the 1.4 is an alloy engine and the 1.5 is cast iron.I'll keep you updated on the cv boot. Hope this works on the 3rd attempt. lol

Re: O/S/F CV GAITER
Just a quick update. The cv boot is fine. Jaspers tip for using a bit of silicone sealant around the edge of the boot has worked and theres no grease leaking out. I've done about 10miles so far. I got the cheque back from the garage for £67.00 so am pleased about that as well that will pay for a breaker bar and some more tools. Thanks again Jasper.

hi Jasper
Just an update checked the glow plugs on the pug 106d and 3 of them were down. Shorted them out across the battery one by one count to five if glowing ok if not then its the bin. Put a new set of glow plugs in drained the fuel filter and used the hand priming bulb and guess what it started first time. Had a drive of it round the farm tonight and all is well. The tappets are still a bit noisy. May need your help with how to shim them up to get the right clearances. The pug 106 had been sitting in the yard for 5 months so am chuffed it worked. Will have to drain all the coolant out and replace as it hasn't been changed for a while.
Thanks
Marco

Re: O/S/F CV GAITER
Hi Marco, good to hear that you got the 106 working again
That's a heck of a lot of messing about avoided.
Let me know about the tappets when you are ready....might be best to run the engine for a bit to let it settle in again after not being run for a while.
I've never actually done the tappets on the 106 diesel, but I'll help you as best I can.
Well done for sorting everything out

Hi Jasper
I'm going to have a look at the tappets tommorow. I'll work out what the gaps are with a feeler gauge and take it from there. Just been cleaning all the crap off the 106 engine with a pressure washer wouldn't try doing that with the 406. I think all i'd use on the 406 is a bit of gunk and a damp rag.

Hi Marco, yes, measure the gaps with a feeler gauge then write them all down.
Measure each shim with a micrometer and find shims bigger or smaller to adjust the gaps.
Try not to mix up the shims or buckets....it happens

Hi jasper
The cv boot didn't stay on. I had a feeling it was too good to be true. So i've ordered a stretchy boot and a cone off ebay for about £8.00 Also ordered a breakerbar for £15 and will be getting the driveshaft socket from local shop think its a 34mm. At least it will be done by monday. Lol
