Guys... the head gasket has gone bye bye on cylinder 3 ! ! so the question is what do I do?

I have the new head gasket, timing belt kit inc tensioner ... oil and anti freeze...

But I simply cannot be arsed to do it.... and my local garage want £650 to do it... I'm not paying that ! for £650 I could get another bloody car ! so what do I do.... you guys pick and let me know what you think..

I'm just fed up of working on piss poor froggy shite engineering ! ! !

I know how much you love that car - I'm in the same situation: to fix or not to fix

£650 seems a lot (my 406 cost me less than that)

But you really seem to love that car when you post about it - and you have(?) plans for it...

And you already have the bits - if you do it and save cash then you get the satifying knowledge of a job well done - if not then well who's to argue with your decision....

Get it fixed and buy my Alloys for £450. :)

HI,

How much would it be if you got all the parts yourself and then got the gragre to do the labor, as they seem to but a huge mark up on parts.

ney way £650 is a little expensive after all i paid £250 for timing belt kit inc tensioner ... oil and anti freeze inc labor at a pug dealer

Its only a 5 minute job........apparently :wink: (he he, getting a hang of this winking lark)

Seriously though, you've got all the bits, just set yourself a day and get stuck in, once you get started on it you'll have it done in no time.

I know what you mean about not being arsed though, I had a seized brake piston on the car for 4 months and the replacement sat in my shed ready. I just pushed myself to get on with it and had the whole system bled and caliper changed within 1 hour. I know yours is a much more involved job but the same applies.

Thanks guys.... I know where your all coming from, but this will mean I've spent the last three weekends working on my motor.....lol

Dont worry different things each time... :D

and the MOT is due on the 22nd....

The labour is circa £450 inc vat at the local french car specialists...

The only problem I have doing it myself is when putting the timing belt back on..... peugeot use a calibrated tensioning device so you know when its set right... so even if I do it myself I still have to take it to Peugeot to get it set properly... :cry:

Which obviously means like still paying for an hours labour ! @ £45 even that is like wrong to me !

The plans I had for the car was to buy the 280+ engine set up from HiFlowheads just because I'm too lazy to work on the engine myself... well that and my limited space for such a task!

May wait for my bro to get back from his hols to see if I can use his garage / workbench and engine holder to do a spare engine in my free time !

But what to do ! what to do......

I've spilt blood for this car... dripped sweat and ALMOST been brought to tears by it ! ! lol but its draining me of everything... like a wife does ! you guys know what I mean ! lol :shock: :shock: :shock:

Not in a good way either lol !

Don't know you dude but fix it, biggest regret of mine was a car I had put alot of work into ending up scrapped.

Go to the stage where I had two engines two gearboxs 4 sets of brakes etc etc, really wish I had stuck with it now.

If you can do it yourself do it!!!.

Can you find anoter car in as good a condtion as yours for the cost of reapair?? has yours got any other imminent jobs to do on it??

Well for MOT it needs Lower balljoint on drivers side and handbrake adjusting as the new shoes are bedded in and so not as tight as before !

Thats all I can think of at the moment that could stop it from passing an MOT !

personally I'd sort it getting a mate who is a mechanic to help out if you have one just to check over the work.
