Servo failed, smashed into a wall. Great.

Post by sockpuppet »

Driving into my street, braked but the pedal just wouldn't move. Been told its the servo.

Annoyingly, I was told this after I smashed my beloved 406 through a wall.

Bad luck - feel for you.

Servo? or vacuum pump, maybe? Was the engine still running?

it'll be the vac pump. sadly it makes the brake pedal feel "seized" solid, as long as no-one got injured the rest is only money, think what COULD have happened.
still a shame tho

Oh f?ck, really sorry to see that dude   Just as long as you're ok mate, as above, it could have been much worse but I bet that's hard to imagine just now.

I think we'd all be very interested in the post mortem.

Bad luck mate, long as your ok, as said it could have been much worse, coming off a slip road and needing to brake heavily from 70

I would check ebay for rough prices, or give Andrew page's a ring and give them your reg and a price for trade, unless its a dealer only part im not sure

Heres one, although the postage is rather high :cheesy:

Heres one on a bin for £20

Looks like 20 odd quid is the going rate for a 2nd hand one

Bloomin ek
strange the Air-bag didnt go off it looks like you hit the wall fairly hard,
Glad to see no one was hurt thats the main thing,

As for the servo failing are you sure it as,
reason i say that is because when i slam on inmine you canfeel the Abs throb through the pedal then everything goes hard and when you press the pedal its solid and it wont let off until the car as slowed down,

ihate the abs on the 406s

You won't think so at the moment, but you had a very lucky escape there.

As others have aready said, it could have been SO much worse for you, yours, and anyone else out and about on the road.

Looks like you had to mount a fair-sized curb too before striking the wall :x be worth checking the cooling-loop for the PAS as that lives right under there near the curb, also checking for wheel alignment and for damage to the hubs and sussy parts.
