EGR - Help

Post by xplosiv »

Hi,

Has anybody replaced the EGR valve on there 2.0 HDI (110) 406?

If so how the hell do you get the turbo connecting pipe off? (the the large silver pipe coming from the side if the valve)

Another simple question: has peugeot changed the design of the EGR, as i have ordered one from a Peugoet dealer using my VIN number, and the part i got is diffrent, it is the same size, and all the holes are in the same place)

Many Thanks

Andy

Has anybody done a service manual for the HDi engine, if so is there a PDF/Ebook i can dowload?

Lol, would you believe I've just replaced mine today :cheesy:

1. remove the vacuum pipe
2. Remove the metal P clamp holding the stainless pipe in place (5mm allen head).
3. Undo the two bolts at the end of the pipe (5mm allen head).
4. Undo the two nuts holding the EGR valve in place (10mm nuts).

The whole EGR and pipe assembly will come away in one piece, flip the metal clip holding the EGR valve to the pipe off with a screwdriver.
The metal clip can be put back on with a pair of pliers or plumbers wrench (do it befor you put the assembly back onto the car). Failing that you can get a new clip from Peugeot that tightens up with a spanner.

Don't worry mine is slightly different looking too. Different manufacturer I think (new one is pierburg).

Get yourself a Haynes manual for model year 99 onwards, covers the HDI engine.

Would you/did you get a new clip from peugeot or is it easy to put the old one back on?

I found it easy to get the clip back on, just gripped it with a plumbers wrench and squeezed. Be careful not to bend any of it though.

I havent seen any performance change either way to be honest, but I only took it out for a few miles after the change over. Will see how it fairs over time. Mine hadnt failed though it was just leaking, and I got a bargain EGR valve off eBay for £12.50 (genuine).

HI,

I ask as i have lost power at lower revs (1700 2500), i assume it is the EGR Valve as i have had the car check at pug for faults (from the ECU)

If i change the EGR and it does not restore the power, i will have to look into getting the turbo checked (maybe the turbo is broken)
as i cannot think of anything else that it could be (i ant fixing that, sell the car to some other poor sod)
