Some say the smiley transit is the only good thing ford ever made (not me) but it was loud, slow, not poweful, very uneconomical ie 18mpg, and averagley reliable.
:arrowu: its coz there shite mate,
engines are good but the body work on them is poor they rust for fun,

down south fords used to be called the Dagenham dustbin,
iheard ford had its own metal plant & they rounded up all the old metal dustbins from the council when they become obsolete and they ended up in the metal used for fords body panels,

dont know if anyof that is true but more than one person from Essex as told me the same old yarn lol, 8)

the engine is reliable ill give it that, but with 2.5 litres youd expect more power, and the economy was not good. The hilux has much more power and still does more MPGs

It always felt restricted, but the toque didnt feel fantastic either, the toeque of the hilux is something else, especially in low range.

the Hilux is a different kettle of fish,

the transit is a tool only was any good for plodding about in,
jap based stuff is more powerful as its built to be used in other countrys where it wouid have to be worked harder ,

having said that there was quite a good engine upgrade on top gear the other week the transit seemed to have become slightly nippeir for it.

You'd have to be pretty frickin stupid not to notice the XJ220 wheels on it, and not think something wasn't quite all it seemed.

When I saw the alloys and the boost gauges on the dash, I thought it was either tacky, or something was up...

They're subtle alloys, but different from the usual rust coloured steelies.
