Yep, anti-roll bar drop link, it's the most common part to fail and give symptoms similar to the ones you describe.

i also agree , anti roll bar drop link

looks like this - i once bought a set of these off ebay, cheapest i could fine and 12 months on there still going strong
its a very easy job you can do yourself, wheel off , undo 2 bolts (probably need to grind them off) its very easy

If it is a drop link,
its best imo to replace both sides there not Expensive,
Your also best to Avoid the Ebay ones there not worth bothering with,

My personal choice is the Qh ones there Good value for there money, 8)

On my old saloon, I had this for a couple of weeks and it was fine, just irritating. I didn't do an awful lot of miles while it was happening though. I am a mechanically-inept wimp though  and got a garage near my office to sort it out while I was busy working. Didn't cost much, didn't take them long.

While it's clonking it's still doing its job, sort of, but if it stops clonking you know your handling isn't going to be up to much. The only worry is it letting go when your slinging it round a bend... Time for some economical driving methinks.

Yipeeeee i found the knocking and it wasnt the drop link.

it was something worse i think. the 2 caliper bolt on the drivers side were way lose. i could tightern them both by hand. so now it is done im well happy now it didnt cost me a thing either. :D
