road springs idea/or not

there have been a few topics recentley about springs breaking and in some cases doing damage to brake lines/drive shafts.from my reading of this it seams that its the bottom of the spring that snaps and i had a thought.
why not but a couple of thick cable ties round the coils?[ i dont mean the 0.5 mil ones im thinking 10mil]
you would have to leave some slack in them and they might not stop them complety[as there is a lot of power in a spring] but it might save some damage.
also would mr mot man be happy?
so is this a daft idea?, a waste of time?,or the best idea in the world?
your views / thoughts are welcome

both my springs snapped at the top

The vast majority of these springs break at the lower coil causing the whole spring to fly down the strut onto the driveshaft......

I've already mentioned somewhere in one of these threads that it might be best to look into whether it's practical to fit the modification that the Peugeot Partner/Citroen Berlingo/Renault Megane have.

This is a split bracket that bolts together under the lower coil that will stop the spring from flying down the strut causing the damage to the driveshaft etc.
