recently bought 406 110 hdi 67k 2001
the cluch does not seem to be releaseing properly, when I press the clutch the first 1.5 - 2 inches there is no resistance, the biting point is about 2 thirds the way down the travel, Does this mean the clutch needs bleeding ?,apart worn? ,need a new slave cylinder ?
the gears are not crunshing but at lower speeds even when very carefull to fully depress the cluch andplenty time between changes the lower gears are notchy to engage! ANY IDEAS! THIS IS REALLY PISSING ME OFF!!!!!!!!!!

not 100 per cent sure but i think yours has a duel mass fly wheel and not a clutch and if so these are big bucks to replace.

Re: clutch not clearing
They've all got clutches, (unless they're autos). 110's have dual mass flywheels, but as bangernom1cs recently posted, a change to solid flywheel is possible.
This sounds like it's not fully disengaging, which could well be a hydraulic issue - I just don't know which ones can be repaired without having the gearbox out.

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Re: clutch not clearing
Thanks for info,
will try to get garage to bleed hydraulics.
I used to do all this kinda stuff myself but too busy now. and to be honest too stiff in the old joints!
Does anybody have any idea how much it would cost to get single flywheel conversion fitted if this is necessary ?

Re: clutch not clearing
just to update things
I've had the clutch bled and the gearchange has improved. but I still think If I could get rid of the play at top of clutch pedal travel approx 2 inch , the clutch would disengage as it should, any ideas!!!!!!

Re: clutch not clearing
Have a look at the rod that goes from the clutch pedal to the master cylinder, never looked at a 406 one but some of these are adjustable, basically you need to lengthen the rod to reduce the play.
