changing glow plugs hdi

Post by grasmere59 »

Is there a knack to changing the glowplugs on an hdi as i went to change mine at the weekend and the first one i came to felt like it was going to snap off rather than undo so i abandoned the job as i did'nt want to face a cylinder head job off if it snapped, possibly trying to heat them up somehow? Undoing with a windy gun? any ideas/advice appreciated or perhaps i'll just leave them be and muddle through the winter as it is.

Run the engine till it's warm, let everything expand a bit. Also a soaking of plusgas/wd40 never hurt anything.

A windy gun is the best thing i know to shear off sticky or rusty bolts. I will not let one near my car. As steve said lots of plus gas, which is lots better than wd40, a bit of heat and patience and you'll be ok. Don't forget to turn the glow pug both ways while undoing it. Good luck.
