Immobiliser key probs HELP!!!!

Hi,

My 2002 406 estate decided to sound its alarm the other nite for no apparent reason and was immobilised, eventually had to disconnect the battery as it was late at nite and the keyfob wouldnt tell it to turn off.

Any way the next day i bought a new battery for the keyfob, put the battery back on, alarm sounded again! but when i pressed the fob it turned off the alarm!! all good i thought, went in started up the car..everything fine i ran it for a while!

I then decided to lock the car by key manually in the door so as to stop possibly the same thing happening again... and then later on when i went to go out, i unlocked the key in the door went to start it and the immobiliser had been activated, needless to say the car wouldnt start, it turned over but not fired up, on the display it says something about anti theft? The keyfob dosent do anything now??? what do i do??

Please help anybody!!!

p.s i dont have a service manual with the car, ive tried finding one online but with no luck, is it possible sumhow the key is out of sync??

i know when you put they key in the car to unlock it, the car will sound the alarm unless you press the button down by the coin holder in less than 10 secs and even then im not sure its on all cars. and usually the key gets out of sync in the unlocking dept not the imobiliser but usually what you do to sort it out is put it in to postion 2 i think where only the battery shows up on the instrument cluster and then hold down the lock button

and a bsi reset might not go a miss on something like that if the first thing doesnt work, although be sure you do the reset right.

but do it after you get the key battery, and hold the button in on it, and make sure you follow these instructions rigidly for the bsi reset.

If the key works the remote central locking, it is not out of sync.

Your immobilised car will more likely than not be down to one of two things given the anti-theft system message:

1) Dying battery. D9s are VERY sensitive to the condition of the battery. If the car can't pull the power it needs at cranking time, the immobiliser system will be starved of power by the starter motor and the ECU won't fire up the ignition system. Even if the starter sounds fine, the battery may still be short of the CCA it needs to put out

2) Broken aerial. The immobiliser works from a passive (as in requires no power) RFID transceiver in the key, separate from any central locking electronics. There is an aerial around the ignition barrel which powers and speaks to the transceiver in order to verify the key in the barrel belongs to the car. It's no uncommon for the aerial or its wiring to go bad.

No the key dosent work by remote, but having said that couple hours earlier when i hooked the battery back up it worked by remote fine as it turned off the alarm and started car straight away. Problem seems to be intermittant?

ive changed the key battery itself so i can rule that out, im not sure of the condition of the battery but surely it wouldnt start 1 time and not the next etc..

This all started when the alarm went off by itself the other nite.

how do i get to the wiring around the barrel? what do i look for and how would i know if it was ok?

rac man has come to look at it, and has found out the battery was low on power..... apparently its drawing 2 amps when the cars off? any idea what this would be? he did eventually manage to get it started anyway.

couid be anything drawin power mate eg, Radio - boot light glove box light interior light,

yip them sealed batteries just can go on the drop of the hat, one day you have full charge the next they quit when you need to go somewhere. But as for things draining the power the d9 usually turns most stuff off and goes into economy mode to stop that happening but even so the lights are the biggest drain of power, the bootlight i think is one light that avoids the economy mode, and you cant see it being on if you close the boot so the best test for it is to set your phone to record a video, press record, put it in the boot, close the boot, and give it a few secs, and open it up agiain. Then you have your video evidence if it turns off or not, thats what i did to make sure the first aid box light i put in went off when i closed it.
