Hi guys,
Been browsing the forum for a good few days trying to find a solution to my D9's problem.
I just bought the car knowing of the following faults thinking it would be a simple fix :
The MFD is blank, nothing on it at all, the lights are working its just blank.
A CD was stuck in the drive, i managed to get it out but it wont take in any CDs.
Apparently both these problems came up when the battery died and was changed. i assumed a few fuses had blown but havent found any.
Are there any things that would cause the MFD not to display anything?
Is there a hidden fuse somewhere that powers the MFD?
Is there anything i can do before i go and start searching for a replacement screen?
Thanks for your help.

Re: D9 Deaf MFD and non working CD
hi didge, welcome in and congrats on entering the world of 406 ownership, not sure on the fuse layout on the D9 but it should be in the manual if you have one or alternatively someone else will be along soon with the info.
If the fuses check out ok I'd first of all check the connections behind the MFD, check the bulbs (pennies for your local auto factors) and if all is good have a wander down to your local breakers for a replacement. As for the CD player I'd say a breakers is the best bet there as well.
While you've got all that out of the centre console have a good look around at the wiring just in case the batteries demise was a symptom of some suspect wiring in that area.

MFD: Check the bulbs! If they're ok, try unplugging and re-plugging it. You could also try disconnecting the car battery for a few minutes.
Stereo: Get a fascia kit and aftermarket one to save faffing about. The OEM stereo is coded to your car and you'll need it re-coding to work. Also the internal CD player is pretty rare as CDs were extremely new tech when the 406 was designed, so it was only in the last couple of years of production that they fitted anything other than a tape player inside! (although high-end models could have a CD changer in the boot...)

Thanks for the replies.
Checked the bulbs, all were working. managed to blow 2 somehow though.
Disconnected it, then reconnected, still the same.
Are there any fuses associated with the screen. It stopped working when the battery was changed, so normally this would mean a fuse to me.
Im not too far from a scrappy but they wanna charge me £20 with no return option. A cost i want to avoid until its confirmed the screen is dead.

A quick look at the D9 Haynes says fuse 8 (10A) is for the display, but your problem could stem from fuse 18 (10A switch illumination), fuse 10 (15A stereo switched) or even fuse 25 (20A wash/wipe) as it's allegedly the stereo permanent feed (the display should be powered up at all times as that's how it keeps the time!)
Haynes has been known to be very wrong in this department though!!!

£20 for an MFD !!!!
I have a spare but unfortunately for you it's a D8, it 'accidentally' fell in my pocket on a visit to the breakers
If the fuses etc check out ok and you're changing the stereo anyway the MFD will only give you MPG's and exterior temp AFAIK so I'd live with it until you find a cheap replacement.
Mine only gives exterior temp as I have an MP3 stereo in a D8 diesel which was never setup for an MPG readout which I think is pretty pointless, I don't need a readout to tell me it's cold the ice on the windscreen gives it away
