While waiting in the outside lane queue of the A14 this morn, wait for a truck to pass another at glacial speed, I was virtually barged out the way by one of welly's mates in a V70, who undertook me, then virtually chopped of the dogmobile's cold wet nose to squeeze in front.
I'm always too slow to shut the door on these idiots, so had to satisfy myself with the usual BSI-delayed blast on the horn.
When the traffic finally cleared, he decided to demostrate the superior pulling power of his D5-equiped leviathan. While the clouds of zorst smoke were truly magnificent and it was quite sprightly for a hearse, the Volvo seemed unable to shake off the aged, dented 406 behind
Odd that.....

2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)
The D5 'only' has 170bhp and to be fair Doggy there's quite a bit of unrest regarding the D5 amongst some of my new, understanding, forum friends. They say it has somewhat of a drink problem and likes to fill up it's own sump with Diesel the recommended fix by the dealer is to drain some of the 'mixture' out of the sump and run around just-above-minimum on the dippy
Apparently the FAP programme over-injects or something and you end up with fuel being dumped and somehow making it into the sump. Running around on minimum is an extra safeguard just in case the FAP programme fix don't work
The smoke-screen was probably down to the way under-takers drive usually - was probably out being tested by a garage or something?
I bet you've surprised a few people like this now with all your new torques, opening up big gaps behind you

I think that was part of the joke, referring to the Volvo estate as a Hearse.
I hate people who cut up, such as that situation, instead of waiting til you get past the lorries and move into the outside lane.
However:
When someone (usually in a Renault Scenic for some reason...) is just sitting in the outside lane, with the inside lane otherwise clear, I will admit to occasionally partaking in some undertaking. Especially if they are sitting at 55-60 on a motorway.
If only to make a point.

There's a recall on these engines, ECM upgrade, so I'm told, my son has had lots of practice in removing oil from these, allegedly, diesel gets injected into the sump on regenerations. This applies to all the Volvo diesels with particulate filters.

Not heard of the problem on Pugs, (FAPped-up ones inject fuel during the exhaust stroke to deliberately burn it in the cat, so as to heat the FAP enough to regen), guess 'our' cars have smarter injection timing.
You can't help thinking all diesels would be better off without the damn things.
Reckon I'm seeing an economy improvement too.

Yeah, I agree diesels might better off without the FAP, at least my job might be easier
My son and I have some interesting conversations about Volvos some days when he gets home from work....my lips are sealed
Regarding undertaking, I just got home from the latest instalment of stripping out my MIL's bungalow before we sell it to pay the thieving council that are taking £430 a week off us for her upkeep, had a Focus hopping about in different lanes on the dual carriageway, we were taking bets whether he was going on the motorway, turning left at the lights or going round the roundabout the same way as us, he went as if to turn right round the roundabout then turned left in front of everyone (3 lanes) to go up the other motorway slip road....idiot
Polskipug wrote:You would hate it here then Doggy,
any lane is fair game on any road , even the local Boys in Blue partake in a good healthy dose of undertaking,
suits me perfectly as it feels like home, as I pass somebody on the right hand side .
Its not done with any malice or forethought here its just accepted as the norm and does make getting places that little bit easier i have to say.
Good to see the re-map is paying off though
stick it to the Vulva's!
Sounds exactly like the 'States... Overtake in any lane is the "norm", although they do have advisory matrix signs saying keep in right lane when not overtaking.
