How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
as the standard ones have a plug, but aftermarket ones like pioneer etc will just be bare wire wont they? so id have to run new speaker cable from headunit to door? or do aftermarket ones come with plug connections aswell?
Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
also will 6.5" aftermarket speakers fit straight into the doors?

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
Hi,
I fitted sony Explod direct to my doors, they came with their own plugs on flying leads, instead of cutting the pug plugs off i botched the flying leads into the pug plugs with a couple of small spade connectors connected to the flying leads then plugged them directly into the pug plug
,
the only reason i went to this length was that im looking at replacing the 406 soon and will refit the originals when i sell it but if you are planning on keeping your motor a while then just snip off the pug plug and either solder or joint out the leads to your new speaker connectors.
The sony speakers i fitted were 16.5cm (I live in euroland) which i believe are 6.5" in the uk but to be sure just whip off the speaker covers in the door and measure between fixing centres on the originals, the speaker covers just prise out with a flat headed screwdriver and all will be revealed.

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
No additional stuff needed in the 406 for me to fit my aftermarket speakers, just screwed straight in place of the originals, a bit of faffing with the plugs, but all told it was a 25 min job max to swap out the old for the new
It made a HUGE difference too

165mm = 6.49" Speaker connectors are usually female spades, the tiny and the medium ones. Cut off the old connectors, crimp on the new, pay attention which way round they are...

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
but you have to fit components again dont you? otherwise you wont get the right speaker cable from the door? so i dunno how you wire the new tweeters up, people are saying it as if they just fitted coaxial speakers

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
i dont understand then, cos i thought it would just be bass going to the door speaker and the highs going to the tweeters

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
Yep, more or less. Ideally you should get a custom fit jobbie with mid ranges for the doors, tweeters for the dash and a crossover but, unless you can still hear bats, you won't notice much difference if any.

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
oh right i see lol, the standard tweeters will still work and just use the speaker in door for bass and wont use the tweeter built into the door speaker?
Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
or i could use these?
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/phonoca ... 2-635.html
dunno if it will sound any different on standard stereo? so may be a waste?

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
that would be true if the originals went through a crossover thingy ma'bob to split the signals, but tbh I dont think pug fitted anything that complicated or that technical.Im sure a real audiophile could enlighten us to what exactly they did do or fit.
I fitted 2 way co-axial and left the original tweeters in place, now I am an old old old man now (pushing 40
) and the tweeters are working fine its just my ears dont hear much of em
the new speakers are sending out mid and bass that much i know for sure, as for the high end stuff, well wifeski tells me she can hear the high end stuff better,
sadly thats all the info i can give other than when your getting on a bit and things are failing a young(ish) wife is very handy at times:cheesy:

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
I'm pretty sure it's just a capacitor so the tweeter only receives the high stuff.

Re: How do i connect aftermarket door speakers?
so the standard tweeter will work and the one on the coaxial door speaker wont work? it will just use the midrange speaker?
