2003 Peugeot 406 Petrol FuelPump Relay location?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

2003 Peugeot 406 Petrol FuelPump Relay location?

Post by Crazytaxi »

Hi and greetings from Norway.
I Came to this forum when searching for the location of the fuelpump Relay location. My dealer said that it was supposed to be located in the same box, or besides the ECU on the right side of the vehicle. But I can't find it. It feels like I have been looking everywhere for that little brown thing.

The Dealer also said that on some of the late models of 406 it was possible that the relay was somehow hard coded into the main fuseholder thats under the dash or something.

A little background information:
Last week I wealded the exhaust on the car, as it had broken off going onto the back silencer.
On Monday I started up the car, so that it would be warm before heading to work. It stood outside on idle for about ten minutes,
I got into the car, put it in reverse and it just died. And then the Radio display showed: Anti Pollution Fault.
The Car started again after leaving it alone for a couple of minutes. The starter motor Turned around, but couldn't start the engine. Kinda Like when the immobilizer kicks in.
It ran without any more problems until thursday, Then it just died while driving along the road. Tried starting it. it starts, but dies within a couple of seconds. (We find out that this is beacuse the fuel pump isn't working)
"Anti Pollution Fault" in the display when we tried tow-starting it while towing it back home.

The Car runs if we put start the fuel pump by putting power directly on it. That is why I believe that it should be the relay that is the problem.
The Car displays "Economy mode active" in the Radio Display if I turn on the ignition. But the Battery is fully charged.

So I Wonder if anybody can tell me where the Fuelpump Relay is, or if anybody got any other idea on what the problem can be?

The Car is an 2003 Model 406 Estate, 1.8 Petrol

Afraid I can't help with regard to the relay location on your 1.8, but just to add that the Economy Mode thing is something that kicks in after 30 mins to prevent the battery being discharged by load being used while the engine is off. It should come out of that condition next time engine is started.

Hi there. Sedre says the relay is in the engine fuse panel, and is run via fuse 2. The fuse panel is MUX...

I hope you didn't fry something when you were welding :(

But is it any good? I think if it was me I'd disconnect the battery, give it a(nother) charge, then reconnect it again and see what happens. Don't forget the 3 minute rule - viewtopic.php?f=10&t=13431&p=122217&hil ... le#p122217

I Tried the three minute reset procedyre. And it seemed to Work :D
It started like it always has. And have driven ca 50km's today without problems :)
So the Fuelpump Relay will remain hidden at least a little bit more ;)

Thanks for the help this far guys :)

And then the Anti Pollution Fault showed it's ugly face again.
Once on sunday, when I tried to start the car again after filling petrol, (The 3-minute reset worked) and on Monday morning when I tried to start the car after a quick stop at the grocery store. (3 minute reset didn't work)
On Monday the Electrical windows was still working after I removed the key from the ignition. :?:
So I got fed up, and towed it to the Peugeot dealer, and got them to find the fault. The had to replace the Fusebox in the engine-bay, because of some corrotion. It seems I got the model that has the fuelpump relay as a part of the fusebox and not a separate part. so that cost me aprox £360 to fix (with labour and fault-finding) instead of a relay that costs £32..
