I had a problem on my old 2.1TD where I was driving hom from work and the gears crunched a few times. Then it got worse and worse, until I could hardly get any gears. That turned out to be a hydraulic pipe between the master and slave cylinder. It was leaking and as it leaked more fluid, the clutch was getting worse.

Not sure if when this would have become empy, the pedal would've stayed down.

if there is air trapped in a hydraulic clutch system the pedal will become stuck down but will lift back up
it could be one of the splines on the pressure plate have broken off and has got stuck between the friction plate and pressure plate, but usually its the bloody DMF, it just explodes

clutch bearing

Post by hdinewboy »

If it went bang chances are somethings broken,as the release arm is forward the bearing must have pulled away from the clutch cover ,either the retainer clip has broken or the bearings broke up ,either way its gonna be a gearbox out job !
