406 1.9 TD Running Probs

Post by GGG »

Hi

My P Plate 406 1.9TD has developed a problem recently. When i accelerate hard above 3000rpm the engine dies suddenly, Lift off the throttle and re apply gently and it is ok. Tried changing the fuel filter but no different.

It is becoming more frequent and the other day when i got stuck in traffic the engine also began to run really rough and eventually cut out, Started after a few attempts. Managed to get to work and left it all day. When i went back to it at night it started first time and ran fine for about 20 miles and then started dying again

Any ideas would be very much appreciated

Sounds like the tank pickup has got blocked.

Lift the back seat & carpet, pop out the black plastic disc, disconnect the pipes and cable, unscrew the locking ring and lift out the unit, have fun spilling diesel everywhere.

This is what we found when we did the job on the wifes 306 ...
