stalk NFU

Post by DiscoPol »

Hello all,

i have a 2000 d9 gtx estate, no cd changer no sat nav just a basic pauper set up, but sadly my stalk isnt working, i do have the remnants of an old phone kit in there from the previous owner, but my question is how do i tell if its the phone kit interfering with the controls or is my stalk just FUBAR?

Im in possession of all the the tools needed to do just about anything u suggest, its just the skill, experience, knowledge and basic ability that im lacking,oh and i could do with the hands of a pixie too instead of my hammer fists,i really hope one of you guys can help me out with any of the above requirements.

I was going to do some trickery to put an input on the cd changer Plug at the back of the head unit so i could plug in my ipod or my W995 phone as an additional source as it wont play cds either, but gave up on this an just ordered off fleabay a fm transmitter that will do anything with a 3.5mm jack, this is a temp measure i hope as i think i should be able to get my head round the stereo (i did train and qualify as a sparky  )

if anybodies got any pics that could help please please post em, theres nothing like a great big picture to help out the old and afflicted in their hour of need.

so in anticipation of your p1$$ taking and help i wait with baited breath.

Cheers

Dan

I just got rid of my standard head unit, replaced it with a Alpine unit with full ipod control...obviously thats not much help to you

my stalk didnt work on my old standard head unit, neither did the multichanger, i think someone had replaced it with a different one that didnt have the right features, when i bought my alpine unit i also got an adapter and have since got it all working great, well apart from the multichanger, i dont need that now i have the ipod control.

the first thing to check is that its actually connected, if you open the fuse box panel (under the steering wheel, secured by 3 twist fastners) you should see a brown connector to the right of where the loom is being held in place, this is where the stalk should be connected too.

then you could pull the head unit out and have a look to see if theres any loose connectors there and if things have been butchered by the phone kit..i dont know a lot about car stereo wiring so hopefully someone who does will be able to help you if you find anything weird back there

Rip the phone kit out. It's a job I've had to do on every 406 I've come across, and a couple have had seriously worrying wiring
