hi to all, i am staring to get a very intermittent problem with starting my 1998 2.0 turbo executive. it started shortly after i brought the car later found the battery was naff, so brought a new one. and seem to clear the problem. now back and worse. i could be sitting there 10-15 mins just trying to start, then all of a sudden just roars to life like nothing was wrong, and just runs like normal. when trying to start if i push the accelerator the engine just turns over a lot quicker but just almost like no spark.
anyone know some very likely places to check
any advice greatly appreciated.
hello to all,
since my first post of this problem, it just seemed to disappear until today. i investigated a little further today, from an old trick someone showed me held the ht lead close to the casing and no spark at all was visible. i changed the HT leads because they looked a bit duff. no luck there i could look at replacing the distributor but then I'm not sure if that's the problem, and not to sure if and where the ignition coil would be. please help, i hate a car that don't run right

Do you use the keypad? When it fails to start is the red light lit? When it fails the first time, has it been more than 30 seconds since unlocking the car?
Try turning the key off, wait a sec, then turn ignition on (don't crank it!), press the button on the key, then try to start it
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
hey thanks for the reply, but no i don't have the key pad. i always give the car a good 5-10 sec after turning ignition on before cranking. the strange thing is that it was doing it all day Saturday, every time needed starting, worst leaving me stuck at the pump after fueling for 10 mins and since then no problems?
