I had looked into this a while back, as I was in the same boat except I have a cd changer in the boot. Basically, when this is all connected up you need to take the car back into the main stealer for them to activate/switch on the port that you connect into. If you had a changer already, then you could have used that port to connect into. As for the display on the screen, I dont know anything about this bit of your query.

when i was looking into this way back, what I was told by someone on another forum was that the port on the back of the clarion head unit would need to be activated. I dont know if an audio person can do this or not but the main stealer can. Thats all that I was told. :supafrisk:

You'll need to take it to the dealer to enable the changer port

It almost certainly won't
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

OK, well mine's a 2001 petrol, but got the same clarion standard CD with no changer.
This:

plugged and played for me, with no main-dealer intervention needed to enable the BSI :) . Either i was lucky or the last owner had already
done this.
It's an easy plug-in - if you're in Hampshire and want to try-before-you-buy I'd be happy to work something out.

Can't vouch for the pure iPod connector they also sell, but it IS supposed to display info on the display as well as charge it up.
