2.2 HDI trip and MPG

Post by Dazzler »

Hi all,

Have recently bought a 2001 2.2 HDI executive which im really pleased with, absolutely love the car.

However, just wondered what you guys are getting back mpg wise (e.g tank fulls, motorways etc etc). Ive gone back through some old posts and picked up a few bits of info which range from 40 mpg right up to 50 mpg. (Lots more info on the smaller HDI's).

My predicted tank full is saying 510 miles in total which is a combined dual carriage way and little town driving. I know that the 2.2 are going to be slightly less then the smaller HDI's but I was still expecting at least 600 mils to a tank?? Or was I wrong in assuming that. Do the trip computers ever lie to a big extent?

Any info appreciated,

Hiya mate and welcome to the club 8)

Don't listen to the predicted miles as it reacts quite quickly to the style of driving, i.e if you were driving around town for a few miles before you filled it up it might say 400ish, but if you pulled in to fill up straight off a nice steady 60mph run it'd probably say more like 700. In fact if you take it for a nice gentle run tomorrow and get you average mpg up a bit the miles left will go up too.

I'm reckoning you'll get low to mid 40s average mpg out of a 2.2 HDi as long as you don't drive like a nutter. 600+ miles out of a full tank should be easy enough to achieve.

Thank for the reply DaiRees.

Been on a 120 + round trip on the motorway, stuck cruise control on at 70mph to see what it would do. My avegare was low 30's which I was a little dissapointed at!. However, the car had been stood for 2 months so could it take some time for everything to re-adjust? In total, on this tank its done around 330 miles in total and the trip is showing only another 150 left in the tank so Im going to have to wait and see I think.

Do top half's of the fuel guage go quicker then the bottom or is that depending on your car!.

Cheers

Hello again guys.

Havent been happy with my car at all over the last week so took it back to the garage where they have then put it on the computer, the first sheet of paper I have was reading 7 Faults, being ?1442, p0204, p0203, p0202, p0201, p0235, ?1447. The second sheet of paper I have says anti-pollution fault, cleared fault codes and vehicle road tested, 3 faults stored ?1519, ?1435, ?1442.

Would resetting the faults I had orginally actually cure any problems. Im still getting Anti pollution up, and also ''clean diesel filter (FAP) URGENT''. There is also a very noticeable vibration/judder when accelrating from 2000 rpm up to 3000 rpm. The original fault sheet says somethign about Injectors and injector control box. Could this be what is wrong with my car? Im taking it back in tommorow on a ''surprise'' visit so they cant fob me off with excuses over the phone. Car is currently struggling to reach 28mpg, even on motorway/dual carriageway runs, but the juddering/vibration is whats worrying me the most.

Any more info you guys can give would be greatly received

Cheers

28mpg is definitely not right. Living in a hilly area, I average 40.4mpg (according to the computer).

The best I've ever had, I averaged mid 60's on single A-roads, but that was having to go very gently to let my brother-in-law's heavily laden Fiesta keep up.
