Happy man am I! I've just got to deal with the "advisories" now  (One of them was 16% efficiency of handbrake; I pissed myself laughing! )

It'll get through Smelliot, just you wait and see :)

The only thing left I can replace with the handbrake is the cables, I'm guessing they've never been changed judging by the rest of the car
I've also got to change the offside steering rack gaitor as it's split in two apparently!

Hey, my handbrakes work pretty well, I ignored Haynes, wound the adjusters 'til they were skimming the drums, pulled the handbrake on 3 clicks & then wound the cable adjuster until I couldn't turn the disks by hand. On the ground they're locked* on 5.

*well, when I say locked I mean it doesn't try to roll away or anything, even parked on quite a slope, but if I try putting it on with the car in motion it's very apparent the (almost new) OE drums are far from round :frown: so I've never given it the full monty.

I'll try that tomorrow; I tightened them up a couple of weeks ago but I must have been too conservative! (Mind you the cables could be knackered)

Slacken it right off and see how free it moves. My D9 came with about 9 clicks ( ) but all but the last one just seemed to be taking out slack.

WHAT? A tiny little crack was a fail point (and most of the labour to fix) on mine!

Mine was right on the top of the ratchet when I bought it! Didn't help that the shoes had fallen apart though
The handbrake can work very well but my wife's left arm isn't as strong as mine

You know I wouldn't be at all surprised if my recently diagnosed 'rotator cuff injury' was directly associated with my 406's handbrake "function"

What does that mean, you can't twist your wrist?
