HDI lift pump removel

Post by Avgasandy »

Hello all
Just recently noticed the lift pump in the fuel tank has started to growl rather than a high pitch noise the car has always had on start up.
Been out in car today and the engine just cut out, when i turned ignition back on no noise from tank. Kept trying after about 20 mins tried again this time got growling noise back and car started. This has happened severel times today.
I have removed the rear seat and plate over the pump to remove it but cannot get the plastic clamp off that secures the pump in the tank, has anyone got any suggestions as to removing this clamp so i can fit replacement pump. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Andy

if you look at the ring it has got like plastic vanes all the way around it
think they are to help you unscrew it, what i did was get a very blunt
screwdriver and small hammer and tap at these vanes until it started
to move i then used a cheap pair of very wide jaw mole grips the sort
they use to undo oil filters, or you could try a oil filter chain .

Hi fit new pump and spilt a bit of the old claret along the way.
Car now runs again as it did.
Also car did realize it had been fixed and engine warning light went off.

Thanks for your hammer and screwdriver advise
