Fair stood the wind for France?

Post by Doggy »

With impeccable timing, my bro's boarding a ferry for Calais about now for a recce of the house he's just paid the deposit on. WCPGW?

Not too much, I hope, since Mrs Doggy & I are off to join him when I leaves work tomorrow. Off for a cruise to the Creuse, as it were.

Can't imagine any reason why we wouldn't be popular in Europe......

Maybe no one will notice you driving a French car...

Are we unpopular with actual people? All I see from here are politicians squabbling :?

Never had a problem with the ordinary people of France but revolting farmers blocked all the main exits from Cherbourg a few years ago when we got of the ferry, fortunately I managed to find my way round the lanes.

Hey give them some slack, it's not easy working the fields all day, bound to get a bit sweaty.

Bon Voyage Doggy, don't forget to use 6th gear  :cheesy:

Buying property in France eh? takes a bit of bottle, I don't think I could manage that; I could probably buy a place in Dover and sort of look over towards France but that's far enough for me

Congratulations Steve, you've won 1st prize in this months non-PC post award........

....a night out in Brussels with Nigel Farage

Just had a call from my bro, (who's somewhere south of Rouen, watching his dog pee on metric vegetation). Seems the farmers aren't revolting - but dock workers in Calais are.
All seems OK at the moment if the Pacific and Orient Co.'s twitter account is to be believed.
We shall see.

The french were friendly enough. P&O sent me a text, saying my ferry would be delayed by 70 mins, while I was tucking into a well-planned nosebag at the Harvester in Ashford on the way out. We rocked up at Dover early, were put on an earlier ferry, (which was also late) and wound up sailing at 21:55, instead of 22:05. :cheesy:

Got back about 10:30 last night - 15 hours & 645 miles door to door, including the ferry crossing and pit stops, say 12 hours on the road.
Overall, 1430 miles averaging 52 mph / 50.5 mpg, which is damned impressive since it includes over 100 miles of medieval town centre traffic, cart tracks and the like.
Just underlines what a brilliant mile-eater the 406 is. (I shouldn't admit this but I haven't even opened the bonnet since the last oil change 10k miles ago).

French supermarket diesel - €1.105/litre, even at today's exchange rate, that's about £0.93. :D (It's about € 1.30 a litre on their motorways tho).

That's the trouble with Ferries; you don't see one for hours and then two turn up. Or something.

Sounds like a good (if not tiring) weekend I hope the property was all ok and that.

One thing, when hooning* about in that France with a UK 406 do any of the Frenchists acknowledge you or offer an admiring wave/gesture for piloting one of their* cars?

No, they don't react at all.
They seem to have the same mindset as UK drivers - old cars shouldn't overtake, get in front again asap*
