there is an urgent bulletin going to all major garages in and arround london, it is reported that there is a contaminated batch of petrol being sold from an unknown outlet, it has been discoverd by Peugeot, as there has been a sudden increase in up-stream oxygen sensor failure, and the cause has been lead fuel contamination, anyone who has sufferd this problem it would help greatly if you could let me know where you last bought petrol from, and if you are in london and are going to put petrol in your car, peugeot have confirmed that bp ultimate and shell v-power are NOT lead contaminated and are recommended, this is affecting all cars not just peugeots (for once

) with closed loop emission control, but mainly cars with up and downstream oxygen sensors, there are reported to currentley be nearly 7,000 cars of the road with this problem, as its getting to the extent where the cars will not run, also as a result and precaution oxygen sensors are NO longer under manufacturers warranty untill further notice
this is supposed to be a confidential notice but i thought i would share it as it may apply to some of us

Yeah I heared on the radio, they said the suspect fuel appears to be mostly in Morrisons and Tesco stations. But I missed half the report. Anyone got any more info? It would be nice to know which refinery it's come from. My last 2 tankfulls have been Esso....

I try to avoid tesco anyway as round our way, their always a couple more pence. Asda is too near Eso to bother with, so i only use them if I want a couple of quid worth after shopping. I've long thought that "proper" fuel stations give you better fuel.

I just heard about all this today and I also heard that diesel cars have been affected on ITN news. I filled the tank up last night at Tesco and I did about 300 miles today on a round trip to Leeds and back. I didn't notice anything dodgy in the performance of the car, but I keep feeling nervus incase my cat gets damaged or something like that. I'm never gonna fuel up at Tesco ever again.

Leeds has got so many roads with so many pot holes!

I'm surprised you actually got back out of Leeds and didn't get stuck all night in it's one-way 'loop' system

Texaco is really expensive around here, 5p/l more than Asda or Esso, that's £3.50 on a tankful!

I sometimes use Tesco if I'm passing one of the cheaper ones (Aberdare or Neath Abbey for the local boys

) just to get the clubcard points, but I reckon I'll be staying away from them for a while....

Anyone know if Esso is OK?

I got mine from Esso n so far so good. Haven't heard that Esso hyave had any probs.

why are you using such poor fuel, dont you know peugeot recommends Total

muppets, they probably failed to realise this is probably where all the shite fuel is comming from, well actually i have no idea, but you never know
i remember one of my friends had an astra van 1.7 cdti, we put total diesel in it and it wouldnt run, we drained the tank to find it was full of water! this was over a year ago, so maybe things have improved since then

Dosn't anyone realise that Tesco,et al,DO NOT make ANY petrol or Diesel,it is ALL supplied by "normal"suppliers,for example the local Tesco Express here(Ongar,Essex) is ,and is advertised as,Esso,Tesco merely get a rake-off for selling it,and do not give their customers the so-called ClubCard points because of it.

I've always used Sainsbury's fuel, altho they is a shell garage 3 mile away that is 1p less a littre at 89.9 atm.

Well of course we know that, but as with all manufacturing processes there's going to be a range of product "quality" within the specification. Now if it were me I'd keep the best stuff for my own retailer so they could happily sell it for a little bit more, and I'd give the not-so-good stuff to the budget retailers so they sell lots of it for a little bit less, still earning me the revenue. Also there's no difficulty in varying the "additives" between batches.

Overall I reckon that the quality of fuel on sale in the UK is very high, but I still reckon that the producer's forecourts probably sell marginally better fuel than the budget outlets...

Never understood why the tesco express petrol stations don't do clubcard points, the normal and extra ones do

So does that mean that the counter where they all wear white coats is a meat counter.

I thought the white coats meant it was a controled area.

On the news last night it said that Tesco only get their petrol from one source, which is near the Thames, a depot called green something? or energy something? can't remember, but they import the petrol from abroad, and process it here.

If this is the case, then Esso, Shell, BP, Texaco petrol is NOT the same as Tesco's.

Some say that Supermarket and the 'normal' petrol outlets are the same fuel but I beg to differ, particularly after this episode this week.
