How long is a piece of string?

Took my MOT-failed and rather battered 406 to a trusted mechanic today.

The list is pretty long and a cambelt is needed, the bill maybe £500.

Its a nice drive though and due to my "new" car lasting a week before it failed I am running a hire car at £30 a day.

How much would you pay for a year of occasional motoring?

The devil you know, for £500 or something else for say £500 + the scrap value of the 406?

Guess it wouldn't hurt to research the latter for a few days - it does tend to be a real buyer's market at this time of year.

Cheap cars don't come with "decent" MOTs.

There are a lot of nice cars out there for £2k, but I can't afford that after paying that kind of money for the "new" one.

This is strictly the economical runabout. It beats the pants off a lot of "cheap" stuff out there.

I have a Mitsubishi Carisma Elegance 1.9 Turbo diesel for sale if you need a good, cheap car.

2003 (52), new cat, front discs and pads, new CV joint and boot, new cambelt, rear calipers replaced last year, leather seats, 10 disc CD changer.

Very good tyres.

Taxed until end of march and mot until October 13, hardly used since mot.

113,000 miles.

I've been the mechanic that has maintained the car for the last 9 years.

I just want it off my hands so I'll take £800 for it.

Sorry for the delay replying, I don't seem to be getting notifications, they are probably in my junkmail or something.

I am tempted but we (she ) have decided that one car is enough. The Espace (my "new" car) has been diagnosed and I will get it back next week if all goes well.

The 406 came back last night. To fix everything, including bottom pipe and radiator and MOT stuff came to £1200. So I declined the offer, not to the chaps surprise. I will be advertised ASAP.

ive told them any car thats come off a Mechanic is worth buying before - buying something off a car dealer as good as being blindfolded,

What bhp is it, is it the 120bhp model?
going off auto trader theres two a 100bhp and a 120hp.

It's the DI-D engine 146 G/KM.....£135 per year tax. Taxed until end of March 13, mot until !st October 13.
