Yugo Zastava ("Flag"). Loads of them still about. Sadly.
The locals will either strip it to fix another or fix it using parts from one that's smashed even worse.
Hold on a mo, where's that 2004 1.8 for 1,750€.....
It'd be worth 4k easy fixed up

*gasp* BUSINESS OPPORTUNITY! Steve, I'll buy shitters here, you come over here, trailer them away back to Croatia and sell them on for megabucks. You can start with mine!
You're right, it kinda does make me sick - you could sell my car there for a few thousand Euros even in its current state (easy, given the prices the totally f*cked cars seem to sell for) whereas over here I'll be lucky to get £200 for it.

@G - questions have been asked but the trouble is we'd get robbed blind crossing the border.
@ Lozz: Oddly I've not seen any FSOs that I remember but everything else is still floating about in various stages of disrepair, largely due to how expensive the things are. Have a squint - http://www.njuskalo.hr/oldtimer-auti

Re: Another bargain!
FarmerPug - Ravenhill for the rugby, one of it's last journeys with me was collecting tickets.
The Alloys were one of the best parts. Rapier alloys. Suited the car and weren't low profile (ie. puncture city).
A 406 van would have been a nice spiritual successor to the 305, but a lot of manufacturers are trying to distance their passenger cars and commercial vehicles (excluding van derived cars like the Berlingo).
Citroen put out the likes of an XM estate with a slightly higher roof and blacked out rear windows for some european markets, to get round tax laws that allow cheaper commercial vehicles.
Vauxhall are one of the last selling a car derived van.
Did you know that the last Escort vans were built at the Jaguar factory as practice for making Jags?

Re: Another bargain!
building vans to practice building jags? Is that good for ford or bad for jag?
Im not suprised though ford did own jag for a while.
What happened the 406 in the end is it sold or scrapped.

FarmerPug. I sold it. Had it's problems but was too good to scrap. Tidied it up as best I could, had the usual timewasters on the phone but someone made an offer and drove off in it.
Saw it blasting down the outer ring a week or so ago funnily enough. Doors looked tidied up, must have patched up the rust and the poorly matching rust-hiding paint. Or at least found better matching rust-hiding paint. Probably a new life taxiing or takeaway deliveries.

Re: Another bargain!
in belfast at the moment thats it really either a skoda superb (of which no private buyer actually owns) or a 406, as a taxi. The black taxis are just a novelty.

I got a taxi a couple of weeks ago and was a D9 but it had those circular vents instead of the digital climate control.FarmerPug wrote:in belfast at the moment thats it really either a skoda superb (of which no private buyer actually owns) or a 406, as a taxi. The black taxis are just a novelty.
Tried asking the taxi man about his engine mount but he didn't seem impressed.
Absolute melt.
Black taxis are either overpriced for city centre tourists, or act like community minibuses to the likes of North and West Belfast. They're awkward enough, you get in one and share with 5 strangers, all the while trying to avert eye contact.

Re: Another bargain!
Ah yes i remember the journey in a black taxi i had, was shocked by strangers using it aswell, if thats how it works why not take the bus. Although if its an absolute stunner who jumps into the back with you its not such a bad thing.sirwiggum wrote: Black taxis are either overpriced for city centre tourists, or act like community minibuses to the likes of North and West Belfast. On the issue of engine mounts, how much were you getting quoted, parts included. My engine shows no signs of issues in this area but with the fear about them i thought if i was ever to get the clutch changed it would be a good time for these aswell.

Re: Another bargain!
They quoted 2 mounts (excluding the one already changed), did the sucking-breath-through-teeth and said parts plus 3.5 hour labour plus VAT could end up £300.

Re: Another bargain!
woah, for engine mounts, jeez thats hefty. The parts are no more than £50 on ebay. And id be taking it to the same mechanic who said £100 to change the clutch. As he said to me £100 a day is enough for any man.
