I didn't mean You are dominated Supa, I simply meant that you're outnumbered by blokes . There aren't that many female taxi drivers, I bet the other drivers and the pissed male punters take every opportunity to pull out (fnar fnar) a bit of sexual innuendo?

The crackling stereo is very common, mine does it (sometimes) and does the massive bangs too.
The culprit is not the connector block but dry joints inside the head unit on the PCB where the connector block plugs in. It can help to tie up the bunch of wires at the back so as to pretend you are holding them in a better position to stop the crackling - I did this and is was a lot better I just get the crackling/pops sometimes and maybe not for weeks on end mostly.

I had this on mine too, the almost three years i had the car i never fixed it . wasn't cables up, glue gunned the connectors etc but still had the problem.
I had the radio out a few times but couldn't spot any dry joints, so didn't get the soldering iron out. If i was good at soldering i would have given it a bash but was a bit worried i may have stuffed the radio up
If you were awarded a sum of money as compensation you don't have to put right the damage do you - just as you don't have to use a VAT registered repairer. A receipt can act as a receipt for and proof of money withdrawn in cash from a business account but if it does not show VAT then you can't claim the VAT portion back - they're just trying to claw a little bit back using the VAT to reduce their VAT bill.
Skin flints.

Eh? Which thread were you answering Welly?

What, dig them from out of my backside?
I'll say no more on the subject, promise
Funnily enough I'm wearing mine right now! I've got to tighten up the headrace on the bike cos it's knocking like hell when I brake and corner Must get it done before I take it out again later, I'm tempting fate I feel.

Any chance of you posting them?
I couldn't find a dry one either
I have a jewelers' eyeglass for that sort of thing. Sometimes dry joints are buggers to find, I have had some success re-soldering every connection I can get an iron to...
I did however find a mad piece of fabric tape glued to the underside of the PCB, directly over a resistor
Probably to stop it grounding out to the casing.
Any chance you can fire the damn thing up with the casing open, then prod it about with something plastic?

Good idea, wouldn't be the first time I've done that hunting for a dry joint! I usually do as you said earlier, re-run the entire bloody lot!

First ask him if he can run it without it needing to be in your car
supafrisk wrote:Quick update, stereo has gone in for repair today, the repair guy said years ago there used to be a lot of problem with Clarion units but he thought they'd pretty much got it sorted. He said he rarely had this particular head unit in, as you can imagine I put him in the picture swiftly, pointing out how many on here have had the same problem
Can you find out from him what the problem was supa? I would me most grateful

Bloody marvellous! I'll have to whip out the soldering iron and sort mine now!
