I would be afraid of head gasket failure . I get 50 - 60 mpg in normal (but somewhat gentle) driving so I don't think I can improve that much but thanks for the info.

You can get an economy map, gives about 125bhp & up to an extra 10 mpg
In theory

With regards to the head gasket, yeah tell me about it but ANY older car when worked hard
Will blow the head gasket remapped or not, I blame a fully laden caravan in my case
+ My inability to drive at 50mph

But I take it as an excuse for her to come back better & stronger

I think the economy map probably assumes you are using full throttle in every gear so you can change up sooner but as I very rarely use full throttle in any gear I have my doubts - I can't afford it anyway.

Head gaskets seem to last well on the Hdi, I've never had one go and my present one has done 200k, The XUD gaskets used to fail at around 150k, or less if the antifreeze hadn't been changed.

Not quite as good as you might believe, according to my sources in the trade, all long term Peugeot mechanics
Not common enough to be a lemon ie Rover K series but quite frequent all the same
Mostly 120k +
Mine is 100% gone still drives ok but loads of symptoms & getting slowly worse
Needs doing soon.

Iv'e obviously been lucky then, my first one did 246k but was written off by electronic failure, my wife's has just passed 200k and mine about 160k. I must admit that I did see a couple with HG failure when I was looking for one but most I have seen have been OK.
